***Kayla's POV***

Soda kept his word and made himself a bed on the floor. He lets me take the double size bed, hands me an old t shirt, and closes the door. We decide to just sit on the bed, leaning against the wall, and talk about life.

"This is so weird," he says once we get comfy and places a hand on my lower thigh.

"What is?" I ask.

"You, me, this. I met you less than 24 hours ago and I already like you and you're already mine."

I smile. "It is kind of weird, isn't it."

Soda turns to me. "Not in a bad way, darling."

I laugh and lean against his shoulder. "Did you really mean it when you said I was beautiful without makeup on?"

**Soda's POV**

"Of course I did. You are the most beautiful girl I've ever seen."

She turns away, and the moonlight hits her face. That's when I notice for the first time a large bruise spanning from the bottom of her left eye to above her left eyebrow. It's really faint, so it must have happened a little while ago.

I sit up quickly and pull her into my lap and squeeze her against my chest before she can process what's going on.

"Who did that to you?" I ask. I hear her sigh.

"My mom..." she says before beginning to cry.

"No, no darling you don't need to cry!" I say and hold her protectively as if someone was outside the bedroom door trying to take her away from me.

"No, Soda, you don't understand, I do," she chokes out. I make myself comfortable against the wall, then position her in a spot where she can be comfy in my arms.

"Kayla, what happened? Are you okay?" I ask softly so she knows I truly care.

"No, I'm not okay," she says quietly.

"I won't make you tell me why as long as you're safe," I say, rubbing her back.

"No, no it's okay I need to tell someone," she says. She draws a quivering breath before sitting up a little bit.

"So my mom hit me one night when I told her I dropped out of school. She hit me really hard. I had to wear loads and loads of makeup just to cover it up, and of course, I had to match the other eye with it, so I looked ridiculous. She always tells me I'm a mistake, I'm ugly, I'm horrible, and it made me super anxious and all that. To top it off, my dad left when I was 12, and I began to be so afraid of everyone and everything. I have huge trust issues, so I have no idea why I'm spilling all of this to you," she says with a laugh.

"Kayla, you could trust me with anything. And let me tell you, as long as I'm around, she'll never hit you again, okay?" She nods against me and I hold her tighter. "You aren't a mistake, you make the world such a beautiful place. You definitely aren't ugly, you are so beautiful it actually blows my mind. You are not horrible, you are amazing, fantastic, kind, funny, and mine. Never forget that, okay? No matter if we grow old together, break up tomorrow, or break up in a month, I will always be here for you. Please know you can come to me with anything, whether it's being scared of a spider to being scared of something life threatening. I'll just hold you and protect you and make sure you know I won't let anything hurt you." I lean down and wipe her tears away. "Oh, and Kayla?"

She looks up at me. "Yeah?"

I lean down and kiss her the way I did in front of the gang. "I just wanted to do that."

She laughs and slides down so she can lay on my chest. I decide to lay down and get comfy too. I pull her against my chest and climb under the blankets. Kayla shuffles and sits up so she can see me.

"Hey Soda, remember when you asked if I was okay?" Kayla asks.

"Yeah?" I return.

"I am now." And with that, she falls asleep against my chest.
