ONE MONTH LATER
***Kayla's POV***
No. No no no. Nope. No way.
My period is late. A week late. And that never happens to me.
This can't be happening.
And yeah, we forgot protection, it was in the middle of the night on Darry's couch.
This can't be happening.
I run to the phone so fast I nearly run into the wall. I dial Alex and it rings 4 times before she answers.
"Hello?"
"Alex, come over right now," I demand.
"Kayla? What's going on?"
"Alex, I'm not messing around. Come over right now."
"Okay, I'll get in the car as soon as I hang up," she says.
"Will you stop at the store along the way and bring a ton of pregnancy tests?"
I hear her pause. "What the hell! Kayla?"
"Please Alex, at least 6.."
"Okay, I'll be right over."
She hangs up quickly. I sit on my couch and twiddle my fingers, my heart pumping out of my chest.
This can't be happening.
I don't move until she gets to the door. She doesn't bother knocking anymore, and bursts in holding two plastic bags.
"My god, you won't believe how many weird looks I got for buying 6 of these. But, here you go. What do you need them for?"
I just look at her in terror and her eyes widen.
"Holy shit.."
Tears ball up in my eyes and she reaches forward to hug me.
"How did this happen?" she asks softly.
"It was the night we made up, and things got so heated we didn't even think about protection.."
"Yikes. Look, I know you're scared, but was 6 really necessary?" she says as she rubs my back.
"I wanted to have all of the girls take one, just so I don't feel as weird.." I reply, calming down a little bit.
"I'll call Lauren and see if she can come over with everyone."
I nod and sit back down on the couch as she runs to the phone. I place my head in my hands and wait.
This can't be happening.
Alex returns after a few minutes. "She said everyone but Jess can make it, and they're on their way right now."
"Okay," I reply.
"Hey, everything's going to be okay! I mean, I wouldn't hate having another mother in the gang," Alex says with a smile.
"Speaking of that, where is the baby?" I ask.
"She's with Two-Bit, he wanted a little bit of uncle time with her. It's his way of saying, 'I'm sorry Dally left, but hey, I'm still here'. I don't mind, she loves him and I get some sleep," she says with a laugh.
"She is the most unlucky and lucky child on planet earth," I say.
"I couldn't agree more," she replies.
Within a few minutes, the other girls arrive. I let them in and have them all sit around on the couches or the floor.
"What's going on? Like, why did you call us all here?" Bailey asks.
Alex gives me a supportive look and I smile at her appreciatively.
"I think I might be pregnant, and I want all of us to take the pregnancy tests together so it doesn't feel as weird for me," I say.
Everyone gets really silent.
"How late are you?" Lauren asks.
"A week, but I'm never late."
"And so you want us all to take the test?" Victoria asks.
"Yeah, if you guys are okay with that," I reply.
It gets silent for a while.
"I'll do it. I can't even imagine how scared you must be, and I want you to feel as comfortable as possible," Lauren says with a smile. "Plus, it would technically be my niece or nephew, and judging by the fact that Darry may not be happy that his younger brother got you pregnant, I'll protect you and the baby as much as I can."
I smile at her and my heart settles a little bit.
"I'm in too. You're my best friend and I would do anything for you," Alex says. I smile at her too and she smiles back.
"Yeah, count me in. If I was in your position, I'd be doing the same thing you are and hope that you would do this for me," Bailey says.
"I agree with Bailey," Victoria says. "You need all the support you can get."
"Thank you guys so much, this means everything to me," I say happily.
They all stand and surround me in a group hug. It feels so nice to have this kind of support, thank god I don't have super judgmental friends.
After we all pull away, everyone grabs a pregnancy test and one by one goes into the bathroom.
Lauren goes first, then Alex, then me, then Victoria, then Bailey.
***Bailey's POV***
Since there were 3 boxes with two pregnancy tests each, I just grabbed the last box without opening it. By the time I come back out, everyone should have their results, which is both exciting and nerve-racking.
I follow the directions and wait for the ten minutes before the results are shown. I was told to wait until my results were ready so we could all reveal ours at the same time.
I stand back against the counter and hear a scream of happiness from the other room.
"It's negative! I'm not pregnant!" Kayla yells happily. I hear cheers and smile to myself as I go to see if mine has its results yet so I can go rejoin the group.
But I guess it's a good thing I went last.
A positive sign starts to form on my pregnancy test.
