***Kayla's POV***

I'm walking around town when suddenly I'm tackled against the pavement. I'm punched, kicked, slapped, and thrown around. I open my eyes and find Soda. I scream and bat and cry, but he continues to beat me. I thought I could trust him....

I shoot up and feel sweat dripping down my forehead. I breathe heavily and begin to softly cry.

Someone sits up in bed next to me and wraps their arms around me. I look and see who it is.

Soda.

I scream and jump out of bed and run down the stairs. I hear him follow me until I reach the living room. I sink to my knees and realize I'm still crying. Really hard, too.

I hear Soda come up behind me again. I turn and see his face holds a mix of concern and hurt.

"No, no, please! Leave me alone!" I scream through the tears as I crawl away from him.

"Kayla!" he yells back. "I don't know what I did!"

I can't respond: I just cry. I back up so far I hit a corner and fall on my back. I sit up and pull my knees into my chest.

"Soda, please, just don't..." I choke out.

Soda advances towards me slowly with his arms extended out as if he was blocking my path of escaping. I cry loudly, scared of what he's going to do.

He grabs my waist and, despite my thrashing limbs and pushing, pulls me against him. I feel him sit down and run his hands through my hair. Only he knows that calms me down.

"Baby, shhh, just breathe, you're okay," he says as he kisses my temple and holds me tight.

Then I remember what happened before I fell asleep. I lay against him and stop fighting his grasp.

"I'm so sorry..." I trail off as tears rack my body.

"It's okay baby, everyone has nightmares," he says soothingly. I nod against him and hold him tightly. He makes me feel safe in a way no one has before.

"It's just... I had this dream... and you were beating me... and it scared me because I don't want you to go away too.."

"Sweet girl, I won't ever do that. You know I'll always be here. If this is a regular thing.." He looks down at me for confirmation, and I nod. "Since this is a regular thing, we'll just have to work through it. I'll be slow and gentle with you, and I promise that everything's going to be alright. Okay?"

"Okay," I say, breathing shakily.

He plays with my hair as I cling to him, my arms wrapped around his neck. He moves my legs so they're wrapped around his waist, and he walks us back up to our room. And that's when I first hear the yelling coming from Darry's bedroom.

***Darry's POV***

I wake up halfway through the night because I hear screaming upstairs.

When it stops, I can't sleep again, so I hop up and walk to the bathroom connected to my room. I open the door and turn on the light.

I see a picture and I go over to look at it. My heart sinks.

It's a man who looks around Lauren's age.

"Darry, why's the light on?" Lauren calls from the bed. I begin to fume.

"Lauren, who is this?" I ask through gritted teeth as I walk out of the bathroom.

"That's my dad when he was my age," she says.

"You're lying," I say flatly.

"Dar, I'm not!" she says.

"Don't lie to me, Lauren! You're cheating on me!" I yell and kick the bed.

"No I'm not Darrel!" she screams back.

I cuss her out, and before I know it, she's running through the door into the kitchen. I sit on the bed and let my head fall into my hands.

My thoughts of her cheating on me soon turn to the sadness of losing her. She wouldn't lie to me, I know my girlfriend...

I slowly walk through the door and walk down the hallway. I hear sniffles interrupted by sips of water. I turn the corner and see her leaning over the sink.

I walk up behind her and wrap my arms around her from waist.

"Baby.." I start. "I'm so sorry, please don't cry.."

Lauren turns and wraps her arms around my neck to hug me back. "Darry, please, you have to believe me, I wouldn't ever cheat on you, I love you too much..."

I feel a tear slip down my cheek. "Will you please come back to bed with me? The bed is so lonely without you in it.."

She nods and I carry her back to the room. I tuck her into bed next to me and hold her close to me. Just as we're about to fall asleep, the front door slams open.

***Alex's POV***

Dally walks out of the bathroom and kisses my cheek. "I'm headed to Buck's, I'll be back later."

I sigh. He always goes to Buck's. Sometimes I wish he would just stay home with me.

"Bye Dal.."

He stops. "Everything alright, Darling?"

"I... I just wish you'd stay back with me sometimes," I say hesitantly. He stops on his way out the door.

"But what if I want to go out Alex," he says with serious attitude.

"Dallas for all I know you're cheating on me every night!" I say, raising my voice.

"Alex!" he says and pushes me across the room. My back hits the coffee table and the glass slices into my skin.

"Dallas, what the hell!" I scream at him.

"Just shut up okay! For once just shut up!" he screams back.

"No, you shut up Dallas!" I say and slap him across the face. I run past him and get outside. I keep running down the long streets until I reach the Curtis house.

I run into Steve, Ellie, Victoria, Two-Bit, and Johnny on the way in.
