Chapter 12: Surprise, It's Bakura!

~Yumi’s P.O.V.~

I sat that it has been an hour or two since Yugi had stomped Weevil in their Duel. Everything has seemed peaceful enough since then, but we all know that the peace won’t last long. But Joey seemed to be quite restless about something, I wonder what…

“Alright, I’m ready for a duel. I’m gonna challenge the next person we see!” Joey exclaims as he runs off towards the beach that lies in front of us.

“Are you guys sure that Joey is up for this?” I ask Tea as she gives Joey the strangest look.

“Not at all.” Tea replies.

“There are pro-level players here, don’t you think he knows that.” Tristan commented.

“Here I stand…the next Duel monsters Champion!” Joey exclaims as he throws a fist into the air.

Everyone’s sweat drops, “I think he needs a reality check.” Tea says.

“I guess that he is as smart as he looks.” Tristan comments.

“Oh come on guys, he can’t be that bad.” I suggest. Then from behind me I hear everybody fall to the ground (anime style).

“You wanta bet on that.” Tristan says. I laugh a little and put my hand behind my head.

But then I felt a distressed energy signal…it was coming from Joey. I turn to face the beach were I see him standing at the edge. I don’t think he came just to support Yugi, there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

“Hey look over there!” Tea exclaims as she points over the cliff. I turn my head to see what she is talking about. Many dueling arena’s litter the land below us.

“Dueling arena’s, there everywhere!” I exclaim. It’s amazing, blue and red arenas litter the land. And most of them are already holding duels.

“There must be hundreds of them!” Tristan says as he goes to the edge of the cliff to get a better look.

“You said it, there’s a lot of dueling going on.” Yugi said.

“Okay,” Joey started with a confident look on his face, “I’m going in!”

“Are ya sure Joey?” I ask concerned.

“If you lose, you give up your only star chip.” Tea tells him.

“You do know that. Don’t ya?” Yugi says.

“Yeah I know, I just hope I don’t lose.” Joey says as he flashes a weak smile. “This is my first official duel, I can’t afford to lose.”

“True, but you know not everyone here is a pro.” Yugi tells him.

“I’m sure you can find someone with equal skill level to yourself Joey.”  I tell him.

“Just go for someone easy.” Tea says. Joey nods and starts to prepare his deck. Since his deck is mostly fighter-type monsters, the meadow region we are in is perfect turf for him to duel.

“Come on you crybaby, I won the duel. So give me your star chips.” A shrill female voice commanded.

Tea had an annoyed look on her face when she figured out who’s voice that was. “Only a voice like that can belong to… Mai”

Mai had just won a duel and got the kids star chips. If I know her well enough, she beat him using her psychic abilities. She says that she is psychic, but I didn’t believe her at first. Then when I had versed her in a duel at the Intercontinental Champs, she knew every card that was in her hand. The catch was is that her hand was placed face down on the table and she never looked at them once.
