Josh had woken up in the morning with a sharp pain in his chest. He thought he could skip school, his parents wouldn't care, but he decided not to. His GPA was already at stake. The pain was unbearable, but he was able to make it through the day. It was lunch now, so that meant he only had one class period left until he could get out of this hellhole. Just two more hours and he could finally leave.

He walked over to his usual table in the cafeteria, and sat beside Patrick, who was resting his head on Pete's shoulder. The two finally admitted their feelings to each other and were no dating. Everyone was beyond relieved when they heard the news. Patrick lifted his head from Pete's shoulder and smiled at Josh, but it soon turned into a frown when he saw Josh's look of discomfort.

"Hey, Josh...you okay?" he asked, and everyone sitting at the table became silent, and turned to them. Josh sighed and shook his head. "To be honest, no. I'm not," he admitted. Josh was never one to admit that he's not feeling well, emotionally or physically. He'd rather keep it all to himself rather than worry his friends; they already had to deal with his weirdness.

Josh could see the looks of worry that crossed over his friends' face. They were great people, honestly. Of course they had their flaws and all, but then again who doesn't? They were always there for each other no matter what, and that's what Josh loved about them most. Frank frowned, and said: "Why? What's wrong?" Josh took a deep shuddery breath, his chest aching. "My chest. It hurts, and I don't know why. It feels like I'm being stabbed over and over again," Josh made out in a low, trembling voice. It even hurt to speak, he could barely even breath right now without it hurting like hell.

"But—Since when?" Ryan asked. "Since this...this morning," Josh replied, placing hand on his chest and clutching his own shirt tightly. He clenched his jaw, his teeth grinding against each other as the pain started to grow worse. He started gasping for breath, and shut his eyes tightly, and let out a strangled noise of pain.

Josh was starting to feel faint, and swore he was about to collapse. Frank's eyes widened, and he stood up, grabbing Josh's shoulders as he leaned over the table. "Josh, why didn't you say anything sooner?!" He rushed out of his seat and to his side. Patrick and Pete helped him steady Josh, who now was covered in cold sweat, and shaking like a leaf due to the pain. "Tyler..." Josh uttered under his breath in a pained voice. Everyone at the table was on their feet by now, scared and worried. Their eyes were wide, and they began asking themselves what to do to help, but began to panic more when they realized they didn't even know what to do or how to deal with this.

Frank made Josh turn to look at him, his hands still grabbing onto Josh's shoulders. Josh grabbed onto his arm, gasping desperately for air, and making pained noises as the pain in his chest grew intolerably worse. It was as if he were getting stabbed multiple times in his chest, the blade piercing and puncturing his lungs and heart. Each time worse than the last. "H-help...me..." Josh whimpered. Frank held onto him, trying not to panic. "It's okay, Josh. We're here for you, you're going to be okay. Everything's going to be okay," Frank reassured him in a shaky voice. He looked at the rest. "Help me take him to the nurse's office."

"I'll help you," Pete volunteered, helping Frank and, now, Gerard stand Josh up. Everyone else in the cafeteria was intrigued by what was going on at their table, many of the students were standing up and making a crowd around them. Josh's knees buckled as he tried to stand up with his friends' help. "C'mon, Josh. Let's get you to the nurse's office. Everything'll be okay", Pete muttered, though his voice was unsure, Josh had some faith. A sudden pounding was starting to take place in his head, and his vision was starting to blur. He was starting see dark spots, and there was a ringing in his ears. He felt himself starting to fall forward.

"Josh!" Frank shouted, trying to hold his friend up with Pete's help, but it wasn't easy. Josh's body felt like lead now against him and Pete, almost bringing them both down to the floor if it wasn't for Gerard and Patrick, who helped them. Frank kneeled down next to Josh, who was on his knees—if it wasn't for Pete—, shaking uncontrollably. Frank, scared and worried, placed his now trembling hands on Josh's shoulders again. "Josh, Josh...Look at me," as soon as Frank asked this of him, he regretted it instantly. Josh looked up at Frank, but he couldn't see anything but dark spots. And all Frank could see was white were his irises and pupils were supposed to be. It took every atom, every cell, even muscle, and every nerve in Frank's body not to scream.

"Help...me," Josh whimpered again. But before Frank could say anything, Josh was doubling over, and coughing uncontrollably, specks of blood beginning to cover the floor. Frank stood up quickly, more than frightened, and helped Pete stand him up again. They both tried carrying a coughing Josh out of the cafeteria, with the rest of their friend group following behind, along with the eyes of everyone else, who were now almost as freaked out as they were. But before they even got out, Josh fell to his knees again, clutching onto his stomach, and vomiting. "Josh, holy shit!" Pete exclaimed. "Josh!" Frank kneeled down beside him. His eyes grew wide with terror and shock as he felt his jeans dampen. He looked down, and urged himself not to vomit when he saw what he was kneeling. What was coming out of Josh.

The blood became a small pool around Josh. "Josh...Holy shit, oh my God," Frank uttered out, tears threatening to fall. When he finally stopped puking, he coughed and shut his eyes tightly, whimpering. "Help me..."

Tyler could feel it. He could feel the unbearable pain in his chest. His body ached now, but felt as if he were more...alive. It didn't feel as good as he thought it would, but what concerned him most now was what he had just witnessed.

After seeing what Josh's grandfather was doing, he ran straight out of the house and back into the forest. He was now sitting against a tree trunk, thinking about what he'd seen. He was certain that this will now bring him closer to the answers to all his questions. He needed to tell Josh, but he doesn't know how to get back. And the pain he was feeling at the moment was starting to get unbearable. A part of Tyler told him it had to do with Josh, but another denied it.

He wanted to know where this pain was coming from, yes, but he was too busy pondering about other, slightly more important things.

Tyler looked down at his black-stained hands, and sighed. He stared at them fro so long that he noticed something was off. The black taint seemed to be wearing off. But why?
