Chapter 17: "Her Dream"

Jack is 10 months

"Jay,did you buy anything in the last few days?" Erin shouted. Jay picked Jack up and walked into the living room. 

"No ,why?" 

"Well it's seems that we are low 50 bucks, and that's fifty bucks towards Jack's birthday and our wedding." Jay sat down next to his wife. 

"Erin,I promise I didn't take any money out the savings and even if I did why does it matter? It shouldn't matter. I make enough money to feed you and Jack." 

"Jay,do you not understand it's money we need towards the wedding. I hope you understand money doesn't grow on trees." Jay scoffed then put Jack down on the ground. He started crawling thne he went and played with his toys. 

"Erin,'I'm the last person you should be talking about money growing on trees. Erin,I said I didn't do it and I promise. You should believe me. Now if we are done. I'm gonna go take a shower." 

"Jay,why don't you go do that. It might be the best thing to do. I'll just take our son and leave I just asked you a question and you completely  blew up on me." 

"You know what Erin, why don't you go. Erin, I only answered the question you asked. This isn't fair to me." Erin walked over towards Jack and picked him up. She grabbed his diaper bag then walked out the door. 

"You know what BYE!" Jay yelled. 

The next day at work Jay walked in and saw Erin holding Jack as Jay walked closer he put his arms out and wanted him to pick him up. 

"Hey bud. Did you have fun with Mama?" Jack smiled 

"Jay,you can have him tonight. I'm going out with Kim." Erin smiled at Jack then did her paperwork. Jay sat Jack on his lap and let him play with his keys. 

"I'm sorry for last night Erin." Erin rolled her eyes than continued to her work. Hank picked Jack up and walked into his office and started playing with him. 

"Jay,I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter anymore. I love you and I don't want anything to happen to you." Jay walked over to her and hugged her. 

"That was a tiny argument and it won't happen again. You're my girl. Nothing will ever happen to you. I promise. Now let's get our boy. I have a surprise." Jay put his arm around her and they both walked into Hank's office and grabbed Jack. 

"You two. I got him. You two go have dinner tonight. Camille and I will watch him." Jay smiled then they both walked out of the bullpen. 

"Jay,I'm worried about him."  Jay smiled. 

"Baby, he's gonna be fine. I promise. He's a Halstead." Erin got into the truck and they both left and went to the house. 

Jay got behind her and picked her up making her scream. "Come on Halstead. Let's get out of here. It's our only night without the kid." Erin smiled then kissed him. Erin grabbed her clutch then they both walked out the door. 

Jack started crying. "Come see bud. Mommy and Daddy will be home tomorrow." He wouldn't stop crying. 

"Camille!" Camille ran into the room and picked him up. She cradled him until he fell asleep. 

"Hank, Let's put him in the bed." Camille smiled then put Jack in the bed with them and they fell asleep. 

"Jay,come on." Erin yelled grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the Molly's. 

"I'm coming babe." But he stopped dead in his tracks when he answered his cell phone call from Will. 

"Jay,it's supposed to be off!" Erin yelled 

"Hey Will,what's wrong?" 

"I uhh. You might want to get to the hospital. Justin and Olive, Connor, Sarah and Baylie were all in a head on collision. It was Justin's fault. He was drunk. None of them might make it." Jay's mouth shot open as he grabbed Erin's arm and pulled her to the car. 

"Fuck." Hank mumbled as he answered the door. 

"Hello?" He saw two officers standing in front of him

"Sergeant,your son was just admitted into the hospital. He was drunk and he hit a car head on. None of them involved in the car might make it. You might want to go to Chicago Med." 

"CAMILLE!" Hank yelled 

Camille walked to the front door and overheard him. "NO this can't happen. I'll grab Jack." Camille ran to her room and put Jack in his car seat then they got into the car and sped to the hospital. Camille ran in and stopped at the front desk. 

She noticed Erin and Jay sitting down waiting on news. "Anything new?" She asked Jay shook his head no. 

Owen stormed through the door and ran to his dad and hugged him. "Dad,what happened?" 

"She she I don't know if she's gonna make it. She was pretty banged up. Look son, I know she's your best friend." 

Owen started crying. "But she's also my girlfriend. We were planning on telling you and I'm sorry we didn't tell you. But Dad, I love her." Will let go of him and walked back into the room surprised. Owen walked over to Jay and hugged his uncle. 

"I need her to stay alive for me." Jay hugged him tighter. 

"I know you do bud. She'll make it." 

Hank paced around the room. "If he makes it his ass is in jail and I don't care. I'll raise his son but he's going to jail." Erin never heard Hank talk like that and it was making her worry. Instead she held Jack on her lap and clung tight to Jay trying to fight back the tears. 

Dr. James came out of the double doors with a notsogood look on his face. 

"I'm sorry." was the only thing he said. Owen clung tighter to his uncle as he heard the words. 

"I loved her.. I still do."
