Chapter 13: "An Arrival"

Jay grabbed Erin's arm and guided her down the stairs and into the car. Jay had packed the bags just in case she did go into labor. He sped to the hospital everyone following him there. He got out and grabbed a wheelchair. Erin sat down and he wheeled his wife into the hospital to start a new chapter in their lives. April wheeled her up to the maternity floor of Chicago Med then got her settled into a bed. Hank and Camille sat in the waiting room along with everyone else awaiting news. Nothing had been said for a few hours. 

"Erin,it's gonna be okay.  I promise." Erin squeezed his hand.

"Jay,I don't know." Jay smiled, then kissed her forehead.

"You can do it. You are a Halstead and Halstead's they never give up. Even in a storm on a dark night, you should never give up this fight. You fight til it's over." 

Erin lied down and fell asleep. She decided it was best to get sleep then instead of staying up. Kim sat down before she went into labor. 

"Erin,wake up someone is here to visit." Erin opened her eyes to Daniel sitting on the bed. 

"Hey bud. I have missed my favorite nephew." Daniel gave her a kiss. 

"Thank you Danny." Justin smiled.

"Alright. I'll leave you two alone. I can't wait to meet the little man." Erin smiled then grabbed her back. 

"Ow. Shit." She mumbled. 

Jay rushed to her side and grabbed her hand. "I'm here baby. I'm here." Erin felt good having Jay next to her. Nothing was going to go wrong, Erin had her soldier  there,protecting her from all evil that could harm her. Jay left the room to get Camille and Hank. 

"Hey Wanna come see her?" Camille got up and walked towards her room. 

"Hey Erin!" Erin smiled as Camille hugged her. 

"I am so ready to meet my little grandson." 

"I hate this pain Camille. I can't take it. " Erin snapped. 

"You all can go home. We'll call you when he's born." Antonio scoffed. 

"You are crazy man. You are family and we are sticking around to meet the little guy. I'm not leaving. Family never leaves not even if they've been working overtime and haven't gotten three hours of sleep." Jay smiled then hugged his best friend. 

"I'm sorry but I'm not leaving." Adam spat. Kim moaned as she felt a contraction. Adam turned around and hugged her. 

"Adam I swear get your fucking hands off of me. Ow." Adam smiled.

"Adam,get the doctor." Kim snapped. Jay walked back into the room and kissed Erin.

"Erin, Kim is going into labor." Erin chuckled. 

"Great. I don't care. Get the doctor. I want the epiural." Erin yelled. Jay grabbed April and got the doctor. 

"Hey Mrs. Halstead,ready to see how far along you are?" Erin shook her head. The doctor checked her and she was 6 and a half centimeters. 

"You are 6 and a half. The baby should be here in a couple of hours. I have to go check on your friend. I'll get the doctor in here for the epidural." Erin nodded her head. 

"Mrs. Ruzek, I'm going to have to do an emergency c-section. The baby is breached if we don't do one she could possibly die." Kim looked over at Adam worried but Adam grabbed her hand and assure her everything was going to be alright. 

Kevin walked into the room and gave his old partner a hug. "You are going to do great and my niece will be alright after all she's a Ruzek." 

"Kev,I want you to be her godfather." Kevin shook his head then walked out the room as Kim was getting rolled back into the OR. Mouse walked into Erin's room and hugged his best friend. 

"I can't wait to meet him. I remember when Joseph's wife was having his kids. You and I went to the hospital." Jay chuckled. 

"Yeah I do. I miss him." 

The doctor started cutting Kim open,they had trouble getting Sierra out. Adam started getting worried. 

"Is she okay?" Adam asked. The doctor nodded his head.

"Yeah." A couple minutes later they heard cries. 

July 1st. at 12:03 am Sierra Madelyn Ruzek was born brown eyes and brown hair. 21 inches and 6 pounds 8 ounces. Kim smiled big as she was handed her beautiful daughter. Adam kissed Kim's head then his daughter's. 

Erin moaned loudly as the contractions started getting worse and the epidural wasn't working. "Jay,get the doctor. This baby is coming now!" Erin shouted. Jay ran out the room and got the doctor. 

"Erin,it's not time yet." Erin moaned. 

"I don't give a crap. This baby is coming." The doctor checked her again and she was 10 centimeters. "Erin,I'm gonna need you to start pushing." Hearing those words made Erin cringe. 

"Okay Erin one more." Erin squeezed Jay's hand and let out a push. 

At 12:31 July 1st Jackson Richard Halstead was born,blue eyes and light hair. Jay smiled as he was handed his son. He looked down at him and in the moment he knew it was the proudest he would ever. Looking down on your son for the first time. He thought what his life would be like without Erin or Jack now. He wondered. He knew this was what he needed and what he wanted. He loved it. 

Erin was handed Jack next and she held him close and tight. Never wanting to let go of him. Jay smiled as he watched his son grasp his mom's finger. Erin laid there not moving just holding her son close to her chest and taking in the moment. 

Adam sat in the recliner holding his daughter close to his chest.

"Daddy loves you and despite the way you came into this world you are my little warrior." Adam kissed her little forehead then fell asleep.  

Camille walked into Erin and Jay's room  room. She glanced over at Jay holding Jack sleeping while Erin got some rest. 

She left the room quietly and let them sleep. 

Jay awoke in the middle of the night still holding Jack tight to his chest. "I promise to never let you grow up without a dad and to always protect you and your mom. You don't know this but your mommy she is the strongest person I know even stronger than your dad. She has been through more than I have and you will always be strong no matter what happens you need to come out being the stronger person. I love you Jackson Richard." Jay kissed his forehead.
