Chapter Thirty: To hold up

i wanna say sorry for making you guys wait but i've been getting annoyed with people in my life (not family) but here's a double update to make up for it

One more day. One more day until she was out of hospital. Now 23 hours, 47 minutes, and 25 seconds exactly. As he thought about how much time he had left until he could see her again, he drifted off into a peaceful sleep, thoughts of her clouding his mind.

The next day he almost flew out of bed. She was finally getting out of hospital. He asked Ashton to drive him there and the curly-haired boy couldn't keep the smile off his face.

Calum kept bouncing in his seat and telling Ashton to "hurry up and drive faster" to which he responded "I'm already going 5k [kilometres] over the limit!"

He couldn't believe it. She was finally getting out. He would be able to talk to her, to hold her, to be with her.

She would be able to eat as long as she took her pills, and he wondered if that meant he could cook for her. If he could cook.

He had almost set the house on fire trying to cook two-minute noodles in the microwave.

They finally arrived at the hospital and Calum almost caught his finger inside the hole in the seatbelt buckle while trying to get out. He just couldn't wait.

They entered the hospital and Calum held on to Ashton tightly while they sat down in the waiting room.

"Bella Rodriguez?"

Calum jumped up, still holding onto Ashton's hand tightly.

"Yeah. Over here." Ashton waved his hand awkwardly as he tried to catch the nurse's attention.

"She should be coming soon - ah, here she is."

And there she was.

He was speechless, breathless, completely in awe.

She was being supported by crutches, she looked amazing. Her arms and legs were less stick-like and her cheeks weren't sunken. Her eyes were light and full of life.

He didn't know what to do. He was just standing there, staring at her.

"Um, hi."

And finally, he moved. He walked towards her. He wrapped his arms around her torso and buried his face into her neck.

"Hi," he whispered.
