6 months later...

A drop of water trickled down the thawing ice to the freezing puddle forming below. It looked like ichor in the dark for the ancient cave was only lit by a small campfire. The fire itself needed rekindling as the small flame danced between the blackened wood, threatening to die. A log teetered over and fell, making the burning wood crackle and sending embers to the air.

One particular ember landed on a young man's shoe before losing its spark. The boy seemed to be sleeping, but on how one can sleep in a primeval place, no one would ever know. His chest rose and fell peacefully, in sync with a figure with red and blue feathers beside him.

Seconds ticked away as more droplets of water joined the puddle. By now, the flame was slowly dying and only remained as a red glow on charcoal. Like a wanderer, the growing puddle started flowing through the cracks in the ground, between fissures. It eventually reached the sleeping boy's hand as he was rudely awoken by the freezing water.

The other hand, the dry one, reached inside a jacket pocket for a ball. Darkness consumed the cavern as the pitiful fire finally died. It was all for vain, though, when bright light illuminated everything.

From the ball came a dragon older than the cavern itself. Heat and light was released from its turbine-like tail. Its white fur flashed crimson from the red light but its clear blue eyes were distinct. The dragon gave a short cry to its master, but no one could ever comprehend what it said. Or so we thought.

Turboblaze lit up even the ice, revealing a young woman's form and a body of another dragon frozen inside. The boy's eyes widened in understanding as he ordered the colossus to radiate more heat.

And so he waited. He waited until the frost fell and melted on the ground. He waited until the body of the girl was freed from the ice and he carried her to the white dragon like one would carry a dying lover. He waited until she gave a small sneeze, lurched forward, revealing a scar on her abdomen where a jagged hole of her clothing failed to hide. The young man held her close, never letting go.

By the thawed ice, the other dragon opened its bright, yellow eyes as it stared at the young woman facing its direction.

She did not panic as her own yellow eyes, once gray, reflected back on the dragon's.
