Chapter 4
The Book
Adrian Monk & Natalie Teeger (POV)
__________________________
"Payable...to...Natalie...Teeee...ger." Adrian Monk said, while slowly writing out a paycheck to his assistant Natalie Teeger, who was standing beside him waiting impatiently for him to finish. He just had to make sure that his handwriting was perfect and didn't go below the lines. "My three favorite words." Said Natalie smiling as as Mr. Monk finished writing out the check, and held it up to examine it, a slight frown on his face. Without warning he crumpled the check and attempted to throw it in the trash. "No! What are doing?!" Natalie shrieked as she caught the crumpled up check as he tossed it into the trash. "The 'k' went below the line. I have to throw it out." Mr. Monk replied trying to snatch the check out of her hands but failed. "It's okay! It doesn't really matter!" Natalie said holding the check out of his reach. "Well..." Mr. Monk said weighing his options on what to do, "I don't think the bank will except it." "They'll except it!" Natalie said frantically. "Uhhh... I'll just write another one." He answered opening his check-book to start writing another check. "No!" Natalie pleaded, "Mr. Monk, I am begging you. We have been here for for two hours! I have to pick up Julie soon! The. Check. Is. Fine." She said, stressing the last few words. There was suddenly a sharp knock at the door. "Natalie, there's someone at the door." Said Mr. Monk. She glared at him as she walked away toward the door.
When she got to the door, she peered through the peep-hole. There was no one there. "That's odd." Natalie muttered under her breath, as she opened the door to look down the hall. "Hello?" Natalie called looking left and right to find no one there. She took a step forward, wondering wether to look further down the halls, when she felt something hard under her foot. She took a step back, and looked down. On the doormat was a medium sized, solid black, hard-cover book. Natalie picked it up, and examined it. There was no title on the cover, and the pages were gold colored. She flicked through the book quickly and found that most of the pages were blank. Confused, Natalie closed the book, took a quick glance of the halls again, and shut the door. She slowly walked back inside the living room, still staring at the book confused.
Natalie entered the room holding a black, hard-cover book. She had a confused expression on her face. "What is it?" Monk asked her, staring at the book in her hands. "This was outside." Natalie replied handing the book to him, and he began examining the cover. "It was on the doormat." As soon as those words escaped Natalie's lips, he dropped the book on his desk immediately, his hands had gone ridged, and he started yelling, "Wipe! Wipe!" Natalie hastily pulled out a pack of anti-bacterial wipes, and handed one to him. Mr. Monk began frantically wiping his hands while saying, "It was on the floor, then you were holding it, and then I held it! Natalie, I held it, in my hands! It was on a dirt covered floor!" "Ok! Ok!" said Natalie, while taking out a couple of wipes, and started wiping the book cover. "Ok, the book is now germ free!" Mr. Monk dropped the wipe in the trash, and asked, "Who left it?" "I don't know. No one was at the door. All I found was this book." Mr. Monk frowned a bit and did his 'hands' thing, (where he puts his hands in front of his face palms facing away from him. It helps him think). "Now that's strange." He muttered. "And when I flicked through it, most of the pages were empty." Natalie said. "Really... Well, let'a take a look." He took out a pen, put it under the book cover, and flicked it open. On the very first page, it said:

A/N: Hello! Sorry that I keep ending the chapters with cliffhangers!
If you can't really imagine what Monk's 'hands' things should look like, you can search on Google Images 'Adrian Monk'. You will probably see a picture like I described earlier.
For people who have no idea what Monk is, he is a ex- homocide detective who was relieved from the police force when his wife Trudy, was killed in a car bomb. It was a phycatrict discharge. He is now a police consultant. He has OCD. Natalie Teeger is his personal assistant, and Julie is her daughter. They all say that Mr. Monk is like Sherlock Holmes. They live in San Francisco, California.
Sorry if it's a terrible summary. I suggest you watch the Tv Show, 'Monk', and you'll understand it better! :) You can find it on 'Netflix', and there are some clips on YouTube. It's also sometimes on this channel....but I forget the name. Sorry. 😖
Sorry if I made any spelling mistakes!
Thanks for reading!!! 😜
