Chapter 7

The Dream

Jack Frost (POV)

__________________________

Jack felt a sharp, stabbing pain in the back of his head. He groaned slightly with his eyes closed, and leaned forward. His forehead bumped against something solid. He opened his eyes to find that he was in some kind of box. He felt a door in the darkness, and tried to open it. It was locked. He cursed under his breath. He then suddenly noticed a thin beam of light coming from the door. He crouched down so he was eye level with the light, which turned out to be a keyhole. Peering through the keyhole, he saw a girl with long, blond hair, and a woman with gray curly hair. The girl looked like the one in the painting he was looking at earlier, before he blacked out. The woman had grabbed some of the girl's hair, and put it on her lap, and the girl started to sing. "Flower gleam and glow, let your power shine," The girl's hair had started to glow, and Jack's eyes widened in shock, "Make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine," The woman was slowly brushing the girl's glowing hair, and she appeared to be getting younger. Her hair was slowly turning black, "Heal what has been hurt. Change the fate s design. Save what has been lost, bring back what once was mine. What once was mine." When she finished the song, her hair stopped glowing, and the woman looked younger, and had jet black hair. "Woah." Jack said softly under his breath in amazement. "Thank you Rapunzel dear." The woman said, patting the head of the girl called Rapunzel. "You're welcome, Mother." she replied. "How has your day been?" the Mother asked. "Oh, you know. The usual." said Rapunzel smiling slightly, "Cleaning, reading, cooking...oh! And I caught a boy in my tower!" The Mother stared at her excited face blankly for a few seconds, and then burst out laughing. "Oh Rapunzel! You are are so funny!" The Mother exclaimed still laughing. "But it's not a joke!" Rapunzel said, slightly irritated, "There really is boy in this tower! He's in the closet!"

"Ohh....so I'm in a closet." Jack thought taking a quick glance around him, and then returned to the keyhole. The Mother had stopped laughing, and was looking at Rapunzel with disappointment, "Now really Rapunzel, stop making things up! First it was with the dreams about a blue box, and now it's about some boy you caught in this tower!"

"But I really did!" Rapunzel cried, she sounded close to tears, "He's in the closet! I'll show you!" Before he could react, Rapunzel had rushed over to the closet, removed the chair, threw open the doors and he toppled out from the closet. "See!" Rapunzel said pointing to Jack, who was still on the floor. The Mother stared at the spot where Jack lay for a couple minutes, then raised her head to face Rapunzel and said, "Rapunzel dear, there's nothing there."

"What?" Rapunzel said, and looked at Jack confused, "But...he's right there!" She exclaimed, and poked Jack's shoulder quickly, (all the while, Jack stayed on the floor, watching them still astonished). "Can't...can't you see him?" she asked uncertainly, turning to her Mother. "Rapunzel," the Mother replied, getting up to walk to her, "There is nothing there." And with that, she walked right through Jack. Jack sighed with sadness, while Rapunzel stared at Jack, her eyes wide with shock and a hint of fear. "You - you just -" Rapunzel stammered her eyes jumping back and forth between Jack and her Mother. The Mother rolled her eyes and said exasperated, "Please stop stammering Rapunzel, you know how I hate when you stammer!"

"You, just, walked right through him!" Rapunzel cried, staring fearfully at Jack.

"Enough Rapunzel!" The Mother exclaimed, "It was bad enough with you asking to see the lanterns!"

Rapunzel stared at her Mother stunned. It looked like what her Mother had said had hit her, hard. She looked close to tears again. Jack immediately felt sorry for her.

"Does this mean I can't go see them?" Rapunzel asked heavy heartedly.

"No Rapunzel, you may not." Her Mother replied, "You have no idea what it's like out there! All those people that could use you for your power! Believe me, you're safer up here." She said, placing her hand on Rapunzel's shoulder. Rapunzel hung her head, and sighed, "Yes mother."
