Chapter 20
Two weeks had passed, and Niall was nowhere in sight. He never showed up to explain himself to me, and that hurt me a little more with every day that passed. No one knew where he was, and even though I had gotten various questions from Kiki, Harry and the other people that were associated with him, I told them I didn’t know.
If they only knew, I thought as I made my way to my parents’ house by driving with the bus. My dad had called me, and I wondered if he knew what was going on and wanted to talk to me because of that. What would I do?
Maybe it wasn’t about that topic though. As the bus stopped, I exited and walked down the road that would lead me to my parents’ home; my hands were stuffed deep into the pockets of my beige coat. The weather was quite cold and dull, as if it was displaying my emotions.
I had various sleepless nights behind and probably ahead of me, and I think I most certainly looked like it. I hadn’t bothered to put any make up on, so I most likely looked like a piece of crap. My skin was lighter than usual and dark rings had formed under my eyes. I hadn’t even eaten properly for the time Niall had been gone and got thinner.
It wasn’t the healthy type of slim. It came to a degree where my ribs became visible, and seriously, I didn’t find that attractive at all, but I just couldn’t eat, nor did I care about how I looked since Niall was gone. Many had asked me about my condition, but I always ignored the questions.
I was a mess without him.
Entering through the gates to the familiar place, I walked straight towards the door without taking notice of the flowers and such, knocking on the door while trying to put a smile on for my parents, but I could tell that I would fail miserably.
Surprisingly, my mother was the one to open the door instead of the maid and when she saw me, her face went blank. “Oh my god! Jolie my dear, what happened to you?!” She pulled me into the house, closing the door as she eyed me with concerned looks. Placing her hands on my face, she rubbed my cold cheeks, planting a kiss on my forehead.
I didn’t want her pity. I slid out of my coat, wearing a dark grey sweater and blue jeans that weren’t too tight. My hair was slightly messed up by the wind and I slowly walked into the living room where my father sat on the couch, my mother walked behind me as if she was there to catch me if I fell unconscious.
I already fell hard enough mom, that wouldn’t help. After that statement, my inner conscious went quiet and I greeted my dad oddly, sitting down on the sofa on his opposite, looking at him with tired eyes. I could tell by his gaze that he didn’t expect this estate of mine either.
“What happened to you?”
He asked, and strangely, it made me laugh. I was sick of pretending to be clueless, and I would tell him that I knew everything. His face became stern at my chuckle, and he wanted to send my mother out, but I insisted on making her stay.
“Why do you send her out? It’s not like we are going to talk about a secret issue, are we?”
My mother eyed us with confused gazes as my dad got up from his seat; his hands were clenched into fists. “Jolie, I did not raise you like that. Behave,” He said, and this time it was my turn to stand up. Oh, shit was about to get down.
“Well, you raised me into believing that you are one of the good guys, when in reality, you’re clearly the opposite,” I hissed, “How about you tell mom about how you support illegal weapon trading into other countries, hm?”
He stared at me with wide eyes; I could clearly tell that anger was slowly boiling up inside of him. I had never seen my father like that and it would have scared me a few weeks ago, but now I was reckless, I didn’t care about anything anymore. Except for Niall.
“Hugo, is that true?” My mom asked him, and he turned his head towards her in a swift motion. At this very moment, I was truly convinced that my whole life had been a huge lie. This man was not the dad I knew and loved dearly, it was a monster that eyed my mother with furious gazes.
“That’s not your damn business!” He barked at her, and then focused his attention back on me, slowly moving closer. I instinctively took a few steps back, my brown hues never left his sight as I kept the eye contact up, my expression seemed monotone compared to the angered look he had on his visage.
“As for you, things would still go fine if you weren’t stupid enough to fall for that Niall guy! You are so damn easy; I’m ashamed to have a slut like you as my daughter! If you would have rejected him in first place, all of this wouldn’t have happened!”
“Well, sorry I didn’t know that I was going to get kidnapped by some guy with a half burnt face and find out what an ass my own father is!” I yelled back, and I was pretty sure that all of the butlers and maids that worked here heard me.
I was obviously pushing him to his limit as he moved even closer to me, and I stood there bravely, close to the wall with a look as cold as ice. If gazes could kill, he’d lie there dead on the spot. The same thing also counted for me, though. Suddenly, his lips curled up into a devious smirk, and I began to question reality. My world fell apart before my eyes.
“Either way, he was only interested in you because of me, and now that his plan came out, he obviously doesn’t have interest in you anymore. He played you, my dear daughter, and you still go up against me even though he should be the one you hold a grudge against. I did it all for our family to be safe.”
His facial expression went from deadly mad to incredibly sorry. I wondered questioning if he had multiple personality disorder, because how the hell could someone change their mood so damn quick? I looked over at my mother for a brief moment, whom had begun to cry.
“What do you mean?”
“They threatened me to harm you if I didn’t do it, Jolie! Goddamn it,” He spoke, and I looked him deep in the eyes. I somehow couldn’t believe him. I couldn’t believe anyone right now. Almost everyone I really cared about had turned up against me, and I was completely alone, without a sword or shield to save myself.
“Fuck you, I’m out,” I finally said after several minutes of hesitation, turning around on my heels to go for the exit. Moving my head towards my mom, I looked over at her, silently motioning her to come with me, but she just looked at me and shook her head. I guess she betrayed me as well.
“Come back! Jolie!” My father yelled after me, but I didn’t listen and ran out of the house and its gates. I quickly entered the next bus that came and once it reached my bus stop, I made my way into my apartment, packing some of my clothes into a rather small bag.
I couldn’t stay here any longer. My parents knew where I lived, plus they bought it for me, and I most certainly didn’t plan to forgive them. I felt slightly worried about my mom, but in the end, I had offered her coming with me and she didn’t. Her choice, not mine.
It wasn’t dark outside yet, and I walked out of the apartment, locking the door while carrying a huge backpack with my important belongings. Well, goodbye, my dear home, I quietly muttered to myself, walking towards the elevator and planning my next move.
With the last few dollars I had in my pocket, I paid a taxi driver to bring me to the bank. I would have to withdraw all of my money from my bank account before anyone else did it. Once I finished what I planned, I exited the bank, and wondered what to do next. I had nowhere to go, or stay.
Taking my phone out, I clicked onto a familiar contact, hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
