Chapter 25
As the car finally came to a stop, we had reached the deepest part of the forest, and in front of us was nothing but a giant cave, the entrance was surrounded by moss and plants that had begun to grow around it. When we stepped out of the car, I glanced inside, just to be greeted by complete darkness.
“What is this?”
I asked Niall as he began walking into the creepy cavity, causing me to stumble after him to avoid walking alone. I was afraid of the dark, and who knew what kind of scary beings lived in this black hole. What the hell?
“You’ll see,”
He responded clearly, squeezing my hand reassuringly as I grabbed it in need of comfort and safety, his fingertips were gliding along the skin of the back of my hand, making me feel a little less scared and nervous. How could he walk around in this radiant darkness in such a calm manner?
“Niall, are you going to murder me and leave my corpse here?”
The thought was not supposed to leave my lips, but unfortunately, it did and all I got was a sudden laughter. He loosened his grip on my hand, wrapping his arm around my shoulder while pulling me closer to him.
“Don’t be silly. We’ll be there soon and besides, I would never murder you,”
He made a dramatic pause,
“At least not on purpose.”
“That’s not funny!”
I shot him a terrified glare, which he couldn’t see due to the lack of light, but I hoped he felt how he scared me with that response. Landing a soft punch upon his torso, I pulled him even closer towards myself and we walked on, until a small light became visible in the distance.
While we walked closer, the light turned out to be a gathering of candles which enlightened a door made of steel. I was fascinated and shocked, wondering what might be behind that door as Niall stepped closer and pressed on a stone on the wall next to the entrance.
What happened next was truly unexpected.
Some of the stones, in the form of a square, moved forward and to the side, revealing a metallic machinery with a… touch screen? His fingers slid easily along the transparent screen as he pressed against what seemed to be several numbers. It took a little time, and I was pretty sure that I would never be able to keep such a long order of numbers on my mind.
Once he was done, the steel door moved, making me feel like I was taking part in a small earthquake project as the ground underneath my feet began to quiver slightly, making me hold onto Niall with anxiety sprawled across my visage.
I hid my face in the fabric of his coat on his shoulder, slightly looking up when he moved forward, pulling me along with him in the thankfully well lit space behind the gate. My brown eyes glanced around the area in sheer curiosity, eyeing the strange surroundings.
Damn, this was cool.
It somehow reminded me of the Bat cave from the The Dark Knight Trilogy (which I only watched because of Christian Bale), but there were lots of people, and everyone wore the same attire, whether they were male or female.
“Hey, Niall is back!”
I heard someone yell, and several pairs of eyes turned into our direction, greeting Niall while eyeing me with curious, confused and partly excited faces. I was nervous, wanting to ask the brunette beside me for further information on this place, but he just led me along and approached another brown haired male.
Who seemed very familiar to me.
“Hey, I know you!”
I spoke out, maybe a little too loud than I planned. The boy with the blue eyes glanced over at me, his eyes widened slightly. Yep, I was pretty sure that this was the pizza guy who brought me my pepperoni pizza once. I never forgot people who brought me food.
“I know you too, what a surprise,”
He grinned at me; his canine teeth were slightly pointy,
“Did you enjoy the pizza?”
I began to laugh, looking up at Niall to see him eyeing me with a stern expression. He was still so damn jealous, even though he knew I was his. I found that behavior rather childish, but it was also a little cute. But only a little.
“I did,”
I responded and the conversation ended abruptly with a smile from his side as Niall cleared his throat, making his presence clear.
“Any news while I was gone, Louis?”
“Not really, as you can see the I.A.P.A. headquarters are calm as always and we haven’t heard anything from Blake after his escape,”
Louis informed him, and I was pretty sure that my facial expression was nothing but a mix out of several emotions while various questions made their way around my mind. What was I.A.P.A.? Did Blake escape? How? Would he harm us again? What is this whole thing about?
Niall gazed at me, and he seemed to be well aware of the fact that I needed an explanation, because I was pretty sure that he had things to tell me. A soft sigh left his lips as he asked Louis to command people to get my luggages out of the car and carry them to a room while Niall would show me around.
“Well, Jolie,”
Niall began,
“Ask me what’s on your mind and I will answer.”
So, we play this twenty-one questions game again.
“What is I.A.P.A.?”
“International Alliance of Professional Assassins.”
What?
“Assassins? As in those people who kill for money?”
I was scared as hell. Who knew that my boyfriend would turn out to be a cold blooded murderer?
“No,”
He laughed,
“Assassins as in a secret union of people who work for the same cause.”
Whoa.
My boyfriend is an assassin.
Now, let that sink in, Jolie.
