Chapter 5

We had danced together for what seemed to be an eternity as our noses brushed against each other, and I stared deeply into his crystal blue eyes. His usual, cold look had vanished, and all that was left was a somehow… sad expression. Why was he sad? I wondered, but maybe I just imagined it, due to the alcohol and all.

“Are you okay?” I was brave when I was drunk, so I couldn’t hold myself back to ask a question like that. Niall averted his look briefly, gazing off into the distance as I eyed him with a questioning visage. There was something going on… but what?

After a little while, his long, pale fingers moved away from my hips, and I unwrapped my arms from his neck. Guess the dancing time was over. But instead of walking off, he grabbed my wrist, pulling me once again closer towards him.

“You shouldn’t be around me,” He muttered into my ear, and my eyes widened slightly. What was that supposed to mean? A warning tone lingered within his voice, and I didn’t know how to interpret that. I was about to ask, but then he pulled his hand away, and walked away into the crowd.

What was going on now?!

I pushed several people out of my way, trying to find Niall. He couldn’t just say something like that, go away and expect me to just take it. “Niall!” Yelling out into the people, I basically searched through the whole club for him, but couldn’t find him. Kiki and Harry weren’t here either.

Okay, how was I supposed to go home now? I really wanted to, and my feet began to slightly hurt in these killer heels. Making my way out of the club, I stumbled out of the entrance, feeling a little heavy because of the alcoholic fluid that ran through my veins.

My brown hues were beginning to tear up, and I did my best on holding those salty tears back, and somehow succeeded. I walked around the corner, spotting a group of people that were smoking outside, since it obviously wasn’t allowed in the club.

Leaning against the wall, I pushed a whole bunch of my blonde hair back, feeling the cold night air brush and tickle against my skin as I took deep breaths, gazing heavenwards to the dark sky. My eyes closed for a brief moment, but my moment of calmness was quickly destroyed by a voice that spoke up next to me.

“Want a cig?” The tanned, black-haired male with the chocolate-colored irises asked me, holding a pack of Marlboro cigarettes out to me while looking into my face with an almost unnoticeably, concerned expression. Did I look that out of condition? I wasn’t a smoker, but the offer was undeniable.

“Sure, thanks…” My voice sounded a little weak as I took one of those nicotine sticks out of the pack, he handed me a lighter as I put the cig between my lips, the flame of the lighter flickered with the breeze as the tobacco began to burn, and I took a deep inhale.

A small cough left my lips as I took the cigarette between my index and middle finger, smoke escaped my mouth while I did so. “First time smoking?” He asked, a small smile crept onto his handsome face. He had manly, attractive facial features, and a stubble. It suited him well.

I nodded at his question and continued to take the toxic smoke into my lungs, slowly beginning to calm down. The nicotine showed its effect. Still coughing occasionally, I gazed down at the ground, trying to over think everything that happened inside the club with my drunken mind.

Niall had danced with me. We had danced so close to each other, it was so intense, and it felt like we were the only people on the whole goddamn world. I forgot about all the drama with Daniel and all when I was with him, but those words he said, they had gotten into my skull.

You shouldn’t be around me.’

I still didn’t understand it. Was he dangerous? A junkie? A killer? He could be anything. But if he was that dangerous, he wouldn’t have saved me from those men who tried to harass me the other day. This was so confusing.

“I’m Zayn.” The black-haired who had offered me a cigarette suddenly said, forcefully pulling me out of my thoughtful estate. I glanced over at him and managed to smile, even though I really didn’t feel like it. “Nice to meet you, my name’s Jolie.”

His lips curled up into a wide smile as he showed his pearly white rows of teeth, which were almost blinding my eyesight. Okay, that was an exaggeration. They didn’t blind me, but they were really white, standing in contrast to his caramel-colored skin.

“Jolie? What does that mean?” He asked, and I answered, blushing faintly at the somehow vain-sounding meaning, “It means beautiful.” I averted my gaze, but heard him laughing, so I quickly looked back at him with a fake hurt look. “Well, your parents chose a fitting name for their child.”

He was flirting with me. I felt a little upset that after all that happened, he had the nerve to hit on me, but then again, he didn’t know what I had experienced these past two days, plus he might have been a little drunk just like myself. I wanted to ask him to stop, but for some reason, his compliment raised my ego, after it got pulled down by Niall’s words, which didn’t leave my mind.

You shouldn’t be around me.’

His voice echoed yet again through my mind and I slightly shook my head, as if trying to shake him out of my head. Zayn eyed me with a confused look, and I simply shrugged, wiping it off with a movement of my hand. Once I finished my cig, I threw it onto the ground, stepping on it with my heel.

“Want to go back in?” The handsome man asked, and I shook my head, deciding that it would be best if I called a taxi for a drive home. I was about to step away when he offered a drive to me. I was hesitant to accept, but did it anyways. He could be anything, but I couldn’t care less. If I was lucky, he’d end this miserable life of mine.

“No. Zayn, I’m bringing her home.”

A voice spoke sternly from behind us, and I didn’t need to turn around to see who it was, because the mere sound of his tone made my heart flinch.
