Chapter 21

(The Secret)

Alex sat on the bed of her deceased friend. She looked over Meredith’s notes a little but then piled them up to take with her. The redhead looked around the room and sadness flooded over her. She was angry with Medusa but sitting in Meredith’s room the loss of her friend began to truly hit her.

She picked up a bear she’d given her friend years ago and tears began to stream down her face. Alex and Meredith had been friends for a long time. They’d chosen to attend West Florida so they could go to school together along with Patty whom they’d met in High School. The girls had high hopes and had even planned to be each other’s Maid of Honor one day when they married.

Alex began to softly cry as she realized so many dreams they’d shared would never come true. So many plans they’d made were forever lost to them.

“Alex I…” Ares fell silent seeing the broken hearted girl. The God of War suddenly felt the urge to comfort his mortal bride. Slowly he walked over and sitting down he pulled the red haired girl into his arms.

The young woman didn’t pull away and allowed the god to hold her while she wept. It was only a moment later and she felt a hand begin to softly stroke her head.

Ares didn’t know what to do for his bride but wanted to help. Comforting others was not something he had any experience with. Normally he was the reason someone needed to be comforted. The God of War internally groaned at the thought that in a way he was responsible. Had he not been attracted to Alexandra and gone after her, having fallen for the redhead, Medusa would not have gone after Meredith.

“I am sorry you lost your friend Alexandra,” Ares said gently. “I never meant to cause you pain like this.”

“Medusa did this not you,” The young woman replied softly.

“Yes but because I wanted you Aphrodite…went too far,” He said regretfully.

Alex looked up at the man that had made her feel so special in Greece. “Aphrodite has had other lovers and she’s married. It’s not your fault she became a vindictive psycho bitch.”

“My beautiful Alexandra,” the amber eyed god told her as he wiped away tears from her cheeks. “I will make them pay for causing you pain.” Gently he leaned down and captured his bride’s lips with his.

The hurt she felt was forgotten as Ares lips took hers. She felt the god’s tongue on her lip and opened for him without hesitation.

The God of War was pleased to feel the mortal woman respond to him so easily. He started to make the kiss more passionate.

“Ares do…”

The couple quickly parted to see Nike standing there with a raised eyebrow. “Sorry to interrupt,” She teased.

“No I’m sorry,” Alex said and quickly removed herself from Ares lap; much to his disappointment. “I found these notes that Meredith made.”

Nike nodded and seeing the mortal woman’s reddened eyes understood what had been taking place. She cast her blue eyes toward Ares and was somewhat surprised to see concern on his face and even uncertainty while he watched the red haired girl. The Goddess of Victory internally smiled. ‘Ares does have a soft side,’ she thought to herself.

“Get whatever you want to and we should head back to join the others,” Nike told the saddened girl. “It won’t be that long before dark.”

Alex nodded and walked over to Meredith’s closet. Opening the door she stepped inside.
