Chapter 39
(Awake)
Alex sat quietly by Eros bedside. Ares had been furious when he’d returned to find Nike with her and Eros but she had defended the Goddess of Victory and pointed out they were all to blame and he needed to get over it. Ares had not wanted to listen but he’d found her arguments too valid. Reluctantly he’d ended his objection to Nike’s presence.
“Hmm” Alex watched as Eros eyes fluttered a few times before finally opening.
“It’s nice to see your eyes,” Alex told the injured god. Eros brought his right hand to his forehead. “bit of a headache?”
“Yes.” Realizing he felt pressure on his left hand he looked over to see Nike siting in a chair on the left side of his bed asleep. Her hands holding his.
“She’s been her nearly the entire time you’ve been out,” Alex said calmly. “She feels horrible about what happened. She’s been helping change your bandages and has kept cold rags on you when you had a fever.”
Eros looked over at his future stepmother. “How long have I been out?”
“Four days.”
Eros eyes went wide. “She’s been here for…”
“Yes. She feels extremely guilty,” Alex told him. “Though she isn’t solely to blame,” The redhead continued. “What happened?”
“It’s all kind of blurry,” he admitted. “I remember flying, needing…uh”
“Yeah I know,” Alex assured him with a smile. “Like father like son.” She laughed as she saw Eros actually blush. “What else do you remember?”
“Flying over a wooded area and I flew into something.”
“Any chance it was a harpy?” Alex asked.
“I don’t know, why?”
“Ares found some harpy feathers not far from where they found you,” she informed him. “Did you fight with a harpy?”
“I don’t think so. I might have run into one in my…state. I do remember something big, brown, furry, I remember teeth and claws.”
“Brown? Fur? Teeth and claws?” Alex said confused. “What on earth could….” The human born woman fell silent for a moment. “No, it can’t be. You’re a god.”
“What are you talking about?” Eros asked confused.
“When you say big brown, furry, teeth and claws I don’t think immortal I think bear,” Alex told him. “There is no way a bear almost killed you.”
“I couldn’t think or even see clearly,” Eros admitted.
