I watched Rick as he walked down the aisle that separated the two sides of pews with Judith in his arms.
"Damn, I can smell your desire all the way across the room." I jumped when I heard Sena say that. She surprised me, I turned to look at her,
"What?"
"You look at him the same way I look at food."
I looked back at Rick and bit my lip,
"His pecks are bigger and his shoulders are too-" I started to say as I watched him with Judith. He was literally the sexiest thing I've seen my whole life but Sena hushed me,
"Shhhh, I don't need to hear it, I see it everyday."
"What do I do?" I asked her about apologizing to Rick. Now that everyone was eating and safe inside we could be regular humans and deal with our feelings. I knew I needed to do it soon.
"I don't know, do you guys have like an inside joke?"
I had been watching him the whole time, he was sitting against a pew and was playing with Judith's foot with one hand, she was giggling. He was feeding her with the other.
"Not really. We've spent most of our time together doing it."
She sighed, getting annoyed with my need to mention our sex life at any cost.
"Well, you should make up some kind of apology and then do what you guys do best afterwords to seal the deal. I'm going to find Derek now." And she leaves. I kept my eyes on Rick. I then walked up to him, my breath shook.
"Hey, could we talk?" I stood in front of him and he had locked eyes with me once I was a few feet away. He stopped playing with Judith's foot, he looked a little surprised but didn't seem angry. He nodded barely and turned to Carl to give Judith to him. Rick then stood up, he was a good four inches taller than I was so I felt a little intimidated.
"We should talk outside." He says, he looked grim. I was beginning to grow concerned but I started this so I listened to what he said and went outside. I opened the door and he closed it behind us, we were on the steps that led to the church doors. It was dark out, the night air was still full of humidity.
"Rick, I'm sorry, I know you wouldn't do that on purpose. You're so good, you try so hard to keep everyone safe and I... I don't know how I could accuse you of doing something so bad." I just kept talking, apologizing, rambling. Trying to make it up to him but as I talked it seemed that I just made it worse. His eyes showed his sadness and looked as if there was nothing else I could do to make this better. I then started to cry,
"Why- why aren't you moving? Why aren't we hugging and kissing-" I didn't know why he hadn't comforted me like he would regularly do in any other situation but he wasn't doing it here. He couldn't keep his eyes on me, he bowed his head because he didn't like that I was crying,
"Rick!" I exclaimed, my throat was sore,
"When we got separated at the farm, I went back to try and find you." He says. His voice was calm. I was trying to catch my breath but tears still fell from my eyes,
"You weren't there but I managed to get this," he showed me a necklace. It was my necklace. I had it before everything, it was a gift from my parents. It had pictures of all my closest family and friends inside. I was shocked, I thought I lost it and would never find it again. I looked up at him, he was holding it out for me to take, but I didn't want to take it. I had a bad feeling about what was to come,
"Rick..." I croaked,
"Max, take it," he started to get impatient,
"No! Why won't you say anything? I've come here to apologize to you because I love you and I just want us to be okay again. And here you are, not saying anything." I say loudly. He clenched his jaw, I knew he was going to say something now that he was pissed off,
"What's with you and Luke?" He got up in my face, he looked angry. I was surprised to see how provoked he got with the thought of Luke.
"Nothing, what do you think is going on?" I was offended he thought I was messing around with someone else
"I don't know but every time I saw you today, you were talking to him."
"And that pisses you off? Why?"
He clenched his jaw and stared hard into my eyes, he then forced himself to look away. He went inside the church, leaving me out in the dark. I started to cry again, not knowing how I was going to fix this.
