Tara was sitting in a hospital in Eastern Oregon when they identified her, lying on a bed unconsciously. It had been eight hours and her mother and James had already come, not bothering to tell anybody else quite yet for they were sure Tara wouldn't appreciate that much company.

Tara's mom was frustrated and was yelling at the doctor for not knowing. He officially settled her down and they both sat in the hallway, she was leaning over, her elbows resting on her knees and her face buried in her palms. The doctor, on the other hand, was rubbing her back to comfort her.

James was sitting by Tara's bed, looking at his hands and the bracelet he still had on his left wrist that was paused at a certain time. He looked up occasionally, hoping to see Tara wake up and stare at him and make a stupid, sarcastic, witty or even just a hello comment. He would give anything to get her to wake up.

It had been hours since then, James's eyes were bloodshot and he was actually crying now. Tara's mom went to a nearby hotel and was probably asleep by now.

James felt a hand on his shoulder, he looked up behind him to see the doctor that was comforting Tara's mom a couple of hours ago. "I'm afraid she's not going to wake up for a couple of days and even so, she might not even make it."

"Are you sure?" James asked, concerned and not letting his emotions get in the way.

"I'm a certified doctor, not a psychic, I'm sorry that I can't give you an exact time," the doctor answered.

"I wish I knew," James frowned. "I'll be back tomorrow." He stood up, took his jacket and put it on as he meandered miserably out of the hospital and going to the hotel Tara's mom was staying at and taking the room next to hers, only to leave it the next day and go straight to the hospital.

For three days he never ate, he was miserable as he only walked back and forth between a hotel and a hospital. Tara's mom noticed. She bought him a small blueberry muffin and some coffee for breakfast one day and he left it on the table.

It was the fourth day when the monitor flat-lined, making a horrendous continuing beeping noise that just might haunt James for the rest of his life. The doctors and nurses rushed in with defibrillators.

Yet as the nurse called "CLEAR!" James ran up and stopped them.

"It's too late, she wouldn't want that." He told them. They pulled out of the room, leaving nothing but a body behind. Then a group of people wearing black walked in and took her away. James wiped away tears when he looked down at his hands again. There was something different. Something impossible.

His countdown began again.
