"Lindsey, listen to me, I just need to get away." Tara said through the phone.
"Get away from what?" Lindsey's voice was layered with pathetic phone voice and sounded way more annoying than it should. No doubt Lindsey thought the same thing about Tara.
"Everything, okay? My family is stressed out by everything, my friends are... Well, I don't have friends except you." Tara said, she missed her friends from college.
"That's not true," Lindsey said in a sing song voice.
"What do you mean?" Tara asked.
"Don't you remember? James! He is there, I promise you. He will always be willing to listen." Lindsey suggested.
"Listen to what?" Tara was confused and twirled a clump of dark hair around her finger.
"I can tell that you are desperate to get 'everything' off your chest, just go for it! He would appreciate it." Lindsey answered.
"Do you have plans for tonight? Because you're trying to finish this quickly." Tara deduced.
"Yeah, um, about that..." Lindsey trailed off.
"You know what? Nevermind! I'm going to call him, for once I'm going to listen to you." Tara stared herself down in her mirror while holding the phone to her ear.
"Alrighty, well, I gotta go, send my love!" Lindsey hung up.
Tara was frozen at the mirror, still holding the now disconnected phone to her ear and staring herself right in the eye.
Get psyched, she told herself, get psyched. Then she realised something.
Quickly she re-dialled Lindsey's number, and waiting for her to pick up, yet not waiting too long because Lindsey was definitely waiting for someone to call her.
"Hello?" She had on a cutesy voice.
"It's me," Tara said through a monotone voice.
"What now?" Lindsey exasperatedly sighed.
"I realised I don't have his number." Tara watched her quirky yet stiff movements in the mirror.
"Then write it down! I'll text it to you," Lindsey hung up with no warning.
Tara collapsed backwards on her bed and waited for the text. What am I doing? She asked herself.
Her phone vibrated with Lindsey's text. She looked down at the phone as if it were mocking her.
No! I can't do it! I shouldn't do it!
But there's no one else, just go for it.
With a deep breath and the feeling of future regret tugging at the pit of her stomach, she dialled the number and called James.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James had literally drove an hour to the airport to pick up his agent, only to drive her back to her hotel which was an hour long drive, and she was seriously professional. He couldn't stand two hours with that woman, what would it be like if he had to spend days with her demands? This band was a band of honest music, they wrote for themselves and themselves alone, and this agent would definitely not like that.
He could hear the nagging in his head right now. First of all, we're getting rid of this van. And that was when he had enough of her. There was no way he was selling this baby. It was from his money and his alone, nobody is ever replacing that rusty old van.
It says a lot when you can hardly like a person after their first conversation. What this said was "bad news".
Benny had a thing for her, though. If Benny had a thing for her, then at least James should try to get along, this was, after all, their lifelong goal.
Benny also managed to ignore the threat to Scott who said he was getting married. Celebrities shouldn't get married, it makes them look bad for being taken and it takes away your time for the band that you have to spend with your upcoming family. Dedicate your life and soul to music and nothing else should matter. After you're famous, of course.
Nope, James was done. He wanted her out of the picture, but he didn't want to confront Benny, Scott or Kelson yet. He could imagine what they would say. This is the millionth agent you've turned down. You shouldn't be part of this if you don't want to make it in the big leagues.
James had completely zoned out in thought that he hadn't eaten dinner yet and he didn't hear his phone ring.
He picked it up, "This is James speaking."
"James," a female voice began, then stuttered, and cleared her throat before beginning again. "It's Tara, the jerk you ran into yesterday or so."
"You weren't a jerk, I can tell you that," James slightly smiled as he began a comfortable conversation.
"Wow, thank you," he heard her laugh. "Anyhow, I wanted to talk to you because nobody will listen to me and I don't know what to do."
"Alright, spill," James offered.
"First, I kinda wanted to know if you'd like dinner or something... But if you already ate, it's fine, I just thought that I owed you." Tara stuttered.
"I haven't, so to Belle's?" James suggested.
"Not after that incident, how about somewhere else?" Tara requested.
"There's this nice diner about ten minutes from the college, how about I pick you up in five minutes and we head over?" James started off.
"Sounds great!" James could hear a smile in Tara's voice.
"Okay, now where could I pick up up?"
