A/N: Check out the quote/photo edit above. I'm kind of getting addicted to making them.
Charlotte pulled Bruno by the arm, trying to find the perfect Halloween costume. As usual, she was incredibly indecisive.
"Charlotte we've been here for almost an hour. You need to pick something."
"Should I be Cinderella or Batman?" she asked.
"Well you're the one who's going to wear it. You should be the one who picks it."
"Cinderella is pretty," Charlotte stopped for a moment before smiling, "but Batman is so cool."
Running over to the Batman costume, she pulled it off the shelf. It was the last one.
"Hey," another little voice whined from beside her. She looked up to see a boy standing next to her with his mother at his side. "I wanna be Batman."
"Oh," she responded, about to give it to the boy. "Here."
"Wait..." Bruno said, intercepting the costume. "Charlotte you want to be Batman, right?"
"Yeah..."
"Well then you should be Batman. You had the box first."
The boy's mother chipped it. "Why should she get it?"
"Look," Bruno said defensively. "I'm sorry that it's the last one, but there are plenty of other costumes here. Maybe you should ask the store if they have any in the back."
The mother crossed her arms. "Why should I? Batman is a boy costume anyway..."
Pursing her lip and scrunching up her face, Charlotte looked up at Bruno. "Daddy what does that mean?"
"Great question," Bruno said, beginning to fume. "What does that mean? Who says that costumes have certain genders?"
"They do," the mother argued. "Boys are superheroes and girls are princesses."
Bruno's eyes widened. "What 1950's book did you get that out of?"
The mother rolled her eyes as Charlotte talked with her son.
"Maybe you should be a princess," Charlotte smiled, still unaffected by the adult conversation around her. Bruno smiled down at her, as proud as he'd ever been, until she amazed him once again.
Charlotte took the box and gave it to the boy.
"Charlotte," Bruno said hesitantly. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah," she said. "I change my mind anyway."
"Cinderella?"
"No...I'll be Spiderman...he's cool too."
Without saying thank you, the boy and his mother left with the Batman costume. Charlotte picked out one of the Spiderman costumes from the shelf and looked at every side of the box, smiling.
"Peanut," Bruno said, kneeling down next to her, "I'm so proud of you. That was a very nice thing to do."
"Can I be a superhero?" she asked with hopeful eyes.
"Of course. Halloween is all about being someone else for the day. You wanna know something else...very, very important?"
"What?" she asked, tilting her head.
"You can do whatever you want to do, or be whoever you want to be in your life, as long as you're happy. Got it?"
Charlotte put her thumb out. She'd been doing it a lot lately. "Got it Daddy!"
