I woke up when I heard Joven rummaging around on his computer desk, "What are you doing?" I asked him with my eyes squinted open.
He turned around quickly to face me, "Good morning." He said, ignoring my question and walking towards the door. I watched him walk out of the room, then turned on to my side.
A few minutes later I forced myself to get out of bed. Joven was sitting in the living room, "Is Stephanie awake?" I asked, moving towards the door to my room.
"She went get something at her apartment, but Emily is still asleep," he told me as I reached for the doorknob.
I let go and walked back into Joven's room to get my phone. I unlocked the screen to see my contact information for Callie pulled up, "What the-?" I said quietly to myself and went through my recent calls to see that no one had called her, "Joven," I said as I walked out of his room, "Why was my phone on Callie's contact information?" I asked him as I erased the heart from next to her name.
"Uh," I could tell that he knew something. He wasn't a good liar, "Joven?" I asked and he shrugged his shoulders, turning to look at the television. I turned off the television and held the remote behind my back, "Joven." I said more forcefully and he snapped his head to look at me, "What's up?" I asked him and he couldn't look me in the eyes, "Just tell me." I sighed.
"I can't," he told me and hopped to his feet.
"Are you seeing her?" I asked suddenly angrier.
"No!" Joven exclaimed, "But why? Would you care if I was?"
"She's my ex girlfriend," I said loudly, "Why was her number on my phone?"
"Stop yelling, Emily is sleeping," Joven said motioning towards the door to my room. He tried to walk away and I said his name again, "Wes, Stephanie called her," he told me forcefully and I paused, "She needs a counselor for Emily." He said to me, "She told me not to tell you."
"She called Callie?" I asked, slightly bothered, "Why didn't she talk to me first?" I asked him.
"Well, for one, you weren't supposed to know, and, two, you would have said no," he said and I rolled my eyes.
"Joven, why did you let her?" I asked him, feeling uneasy about Stephanie spending time with Callie.
"She wanted to get counseling for her sister," he told me, "She wouldn't tell me why she needs counseling, but I wasn't going to prevent her from helping her sister."
I took a deep breath and stopped thinking of myself. Callie was a great person, and probably an even better counselor. She could probably help Emily more than any other counsellor would, "Alright," I said calmly, looking at Joven, "Thank you for helping her."
Emily walked out of her room, "Where's Stephanie?" She asked me quietly and I glanced at Joven.
"She should be right back," he told her happily, "Would you like something to eat?" She shook her head and moved towards the couch, "Would you like to watch a movie or play a video game?" I asked her and she shook her head again.
"I'll just wait for Sara to get back," she said and I paused as Joven's head immediately turned to look at me.
"Sara?" He asked loudly before I could stop him. I flailed my arms in the air for a moment and tried to cover his mouth, "Who is Sara?" He still asked and I placed my hand on my forehead.
"Stephanie," she corrected herself and apologized, "Do you know where she went?" She turned to look at us.
"I'll find out," I said and pulled my phone out. I glared at Joven before dialing Steph's number and moving towards the door. I walked down the stairs and put the phone to my ear. As I listened to the phone ring she pulled into a parking space and smiled at me, "Where have you been?" I asked as if I didn't know and put my phone back in my pocket.
"Out," she said as she moved towards me, "I got a counsellor for Emily." I was surprised that she was willing to tell me that much.
"Who?" I asked her and she shrugged her shoulders.
"No one you know," she lied.
"Really?" I asked as she stood in front of me, "You don't have to lie."
"Joven told you." She said, obviously unamused.
"Don't be mad at him," I told her, "You left her contact info up on my phone and I forced him to tell me." I lightly laughed, but she still wasn't amused, "Emily is awake." I told her and we began to walk towards the stairs.
"You aren't mad?" She asked me quietly as we walked up the stairs.
"I was," I told her honestly, "because you didn't tell me about it and you went behind my back, but you did it for your sister. I think Callie will really be able to help her."
We got to the room and stood outside of the door, "I think I'm going to bring Emily back to my place for tonight so she can see where I actually live," she told me, "But once I can get out of that apartment complex I'm switching somewhere better. It freaks me out to know that he escaped from prison and knows my address."
"Well, call me if you need anything," I told her, "even if you just have an annoying mosquito that you need me to kill, I'll come right away."
"Thank you, Wes," she said and pushed herself into her toes to kiss me. I placed my hands on her hips and gently pulled her towards me as her hands moved in my hair.
"Aw," we heard from inside of the apartment as we started kissing, "How sweet!" Joven said and I banged on the door. He had been watching us through the peep hole.
We walked inside as Joven laughed to himself. Stephanie was bright red. She immediately walked to her sister and sat on the couch, "Thanks for that." I glared at Joven and he laughed to himself.
A few hours later we packed the suitcases into Stephanie's car and she drove away with her sister and Sandy, "Call me if you need anything." I told her through the opened window before she drove away, "Let me know when you get there, so I know you're safe."
"I will," she told me with a smile and I felt myself really wanting to kiss her. I stepped away from the car and moved towards Joven. We both waved as she backed out of the driveway and disappeared.
I checked my phone in five minute intervals, but I never got a text message. She probably just went eat out, I told myself, nothing could have happened. I checked my phone again and messaged her for the tenth time. No message. I was starting to panic. It had been fifty minutes since she left our apartment, "Wes, what's wrong?" Joven asked as he walked towards me.
"Stephanie hasn't texted me," I told him, my hands starting to shake and my focus blurred, "It's been almost an hour. I'm worried."
"I'm sure she just forgot," Joven said, shrugging his shoulders.
I had a bad feeling in my stomach. I shook my head, "No, we are going check on them."
