I placed around the waiting area quickly. Joven was sitting with his hands in his hair. I jogged towards the desk and the woman glared up at me, "Can I see her now?" I asked for the tenth time.
"I will tell you when you may see her," she told me brought clenched teeth and I quickly turned away. I continued to pace back and forth in front of Joven. Joven sat completely still with his hands holding his head. I heard the door open and looked up to see the rest of the Smosh Games Crew enter the lobby area. They bombarded me with questions that I had no right to answer. I was overwhelmed, angry, nervous, anxious. I didn't stop moving until the woman told me that I was allowed to go into the room.
I ran down the hallway until I found the right room number, then took a few deep breaths before entering, "Stephanie?" I asked and she slowly tilted her head to look at me. She said nothing. The room was completely quiet, "I'm so sorry I didn't come sooner." I told her. My own thoughts were slowly killing me on the inside.
Her deep blue eyes stared into mine and she said nothing. I was too hesitant to reach for her, but all I wanted was to hold her hand in mine, "I'm so sorry." I told her and squat down next to her head.
I examined the bruises and cuts that were left on her face and arms, "I'm so sorry I wasn't there," I said as tears began to roll down my face again, "I'm sorry I couldn't stop him." I told her, "I should've been there."
She shut her eyes for a moment as she began to cry, but she still made no sound.
The male nurse came in and Steph's eyes moved to look up at him, "M'am, I am so sorry that I have to tell you this," he said, holding his clip board against his chest, "Emily Konner did not make it. She died of a heart attack."
Stephanie still made no noise, but she turned to face the ceiling and shut her eyes. The doctor apologized again before leaving us alone again, "I'm sorry," I said to Stephanie quietly and cried into my hands.
I slept in the lobby of the hospital until she was able to leave. She hadn't spoken since before the attack. She sat in the passenger seat of my car as I drove back towards my apartment, "You can stay at my place." I told her and she still said nothing.
When we got back to my place I fixed her a warm bubble bath. Joven was sitting on the couch playing on his phone. I made sure the bathroom door stayed unlocked and had a small crack in it once she went in, "She's going to be staying here." I told Joven and he simply nodded, not saying anything, "I need you to say something." I told him desperately, "Please. The silence is driving me insane." My voice cracked as I fell onto the couch next to him, he still said nothing.
I texted Anthony and asked him to go buy Stephanie some pajamas for the night. When he arrived at my apartment about an hour later he was with Ian. They were both carrying multiple bags that were overflowing with clothes, "Think this will be enough?" Anthony asked quietly as they entered the apartment and set the bags on the table.
"Stephanie is still in the tub," I said and knocked on the bathroom door, "Can you close the curtain so I can come in?" I heard the curtain move and slowly peeked into the room to make sure she was hidden, "Anthony and Ian are here," I told her, "They brought some things for you." She peeked out from behind the curtain and the sparkles that I had always seen in her eyes were no longer there.
She got out of the tub a few minutes later and poked her head out of the door, "Hey," Anthony said, flashing a quick smile in her direction. He moved towards the table and grabbed two bags: a Victoria's Secret bag and a Hot Topic bag.
She took the bags, then moved back into the bathroom without changing her expression. She came out wearing a plain white shirt and a pair of pink Legend of Zelda joggers. I automatically smiled when she appeared, "I thought that you'd like those." Anthony said quietly to me from the other couch. I nodded as I tried to meet her eyes. Ian and Anthony moved towards the door and left.
She moved towards me quietly while avoiding everyone's eyes and crawled onto the couch next to me. She placed her head on my chest and I wrapped my arm cautiously around her shoulders. We stayed sitting like that in a completely quiet room for the rest of the day until it was time to go to sleep. Joven walked to lock all of the doors, "Where would you like to sleep?" I asked her and she didn't respond. I looked down to see that her eyes were shut. I moved cautiously and lifted her into my arms. Holding her carefully as I brought her into my bedroom. I placed her in the bed and covered her with the sheets and comforter, "Sleep tight, Princess." I told her quietly and lightly kissed her forehead.
I walked out of my room with a pillow and fell onto the couch, "I'll see you in the morning," I told Joven as he moved towards his room.
He nodded and entered his room. I scrolled down my contacts until my thumb hovered over Callie's name. I clicked on her number and the phone began to ring, "Wes, hi!" She said happily from the other end of the phone, "It's been awhile, how are you?"
"Hey, um, Callie," I said nervously and took a deep breath, "I need your help."
