Chapter 3
'Will you get up already!' I shouted at Charlotte, she was lying with her arms stretched out and her pillow was over her head from the last time I'd tried to get her up. It was nearly 1pm and her house was empty, I guessed her parents already went out.
'Uhhh' she moaned, rolling over to the other side.
'It's one in the afternoon! Seriously get up!' I shouted at her again throwing my pillow.
'Go awayyy' she continued moaning, this called for drastic measures. I left her on the floor and went into the kitchen. I took a cup from her cupboard and filled it with freezing cold water, I added some ice and went back into the other room.
'Hey Charlotte, you might want to get up now,' I started laughing and poured the water straight over her head.
'Oh my god!' She shouted, jerking away from me, she was completely dripping wet. I couldn't help myself and I started laughing hysterically at her. 'Why did you even!?' She shouted, raising her voice so the whole neighbourhood could hear her.
'You wouldn't get up!' I giggled, this was too funny. She glared at me, if looks could kill I would be so gone right now.
'You're not funny, you know that?' She said a smile building on her face.
'Is that so?' I smirked.
'I'm up okay, now leave me alone' she was still smiling though so I left her to get ready.
It was 2pm and I was still waiting for Charlotte to come out of the shower.
'You're taking forever!' I shouted up the stairs, at that moment the bathroom door burst open and Charlotte stumbled out, her haired wrapped up in a towel.
'You're really impatient you know!' She laughed and went to get ready. I was watching TV when she came downstairs about 20 minutes later, 'Making ourself comfortable are we?' She said, standing in the doorway playing with her golden blonde locks which sat just below her shoulders.
'Yes actually, yes I am!' I said confidently, she laughed and came to sit down next to me.
It was 4pm when we decided to head out, we'd had lunch and were planning to meet up with everyone again. 'Same place?' I asked Charlotte as she locked the door behind us.
'I believe so,' she said, 'but there could be more people tonight I warn you! Sunday nights get a bit crazy!' She giggled and I gave her a puzzled look. 'You'll see!' She said as we walked along her street together. We followed the same route we had taken the day before to get back to the school, as we approached I could already hear a lot of screaming and laughing coming from behind the gate.
'Charlotte wait!' I shouted, she froze with her hand on the metal gate.
'What is it?' She questioned.
'I-I'm' I stuttered, my hands shaking slightly and my heartbeat racing in my chest.
'Spit it out already, come on!' She said impatiently.
'I'm scared' I whispered looking to the floor.
'Ah Sophie!' She said coming over to hug me, 'there's no need to be scared I promise!' She pulled me into an embrace smiling at me 'Like I said yesterday, I think he likes you too!' I smiled at her, the way she already knew why I was worried really showed how good a friend she is.
'Thank you,' I said stepping away from her 'I really hope so.' She grinned pulling my hand and dragging me through the gate.
'Charlotte! Sophie! Over here!' Someone shouted from across the courtyard, we both looked round simultaneously to see Jack smiling at us and motioning for us to come over.
'Hey!' Charlotte said to him as we approached 'how is everyone?'
'We're good!' Jack said as we sat down next to him on the grass. 'We've been waiting for you to get here actually.' Jack smirked and looked at Charlotte. She looked back at him and they exchanged some strange looks before Charlotte suddenly exclaimed.
'We're not!?' Her face broke into a massive grin.
'Oh but we are.' He started grinning as well.
'Yes!' Charlotte shouted, 'We haven't done this in ages!' I gave Charlotte a puzzled look, I had no idea what they were talking about.
'You'll find out.' She giggled.
There were more people here than yesterday, probably around 30 people scattered in small groups around the courtyard. I tried to discretely look for Nathan in the groups but I couldn't see him at first. 'You okay Sophie?' Jack asked noticing me looking.
'What? oh erm yeah, I'm fine.' I said shooting him a smile.
'Good, you looked a bit away with the fairies there!' He flicked his blonde hair away from me and carried on talking with Charlotte who has now been joined by other Sophie. I continued to scan the groups of people, so many new faces I'd never seen before.
'Everyone over here!' Jack suddenly shouted, the groups all started to gather round where we were standing, Jack stood on top of a bench so we could all see him. 'So it's been a while since we've done this, but I thought it would be a bit of fun for our new friend here,' he winked at me and I hid my face with my hand as I tried to fight of the blushing on my face.
'Hey Sophie.' Someone said in my ear and I whipped around without even thinking, Nathan was standing uncomfortably close to my face so I gave him a quick 'hi' and turned around again. 'Stupid, stupid, stupid!' I shouted in my mind. 'What is wrong with me, oh god now he thinks I'm a weirdo!' I stood there red faced, unable to turn around. Thankfully Jack jumped down from the bench at this point and came in the middle of the group.
'Can I have boys this side,' he pointed towards the gate, 'and girls this side!' He shouted as he pointed to the opposite side of the courtyard.
'What is going on!' I asked Charlotte as we headed with the rest of the girls over to our side.
'You'll see!' She said, 'seriously you are so impatient!' She chuckled turning to face Jack like everyone else.
'Okay guys, so we all know the rules!' Everyone nodded their heads in agreement except for me, I gave a desperate look towards Jack. 'And if you don't I'm sure you'll catch on quick!' He shot me a glance and a cheeky smirk. He came over to our group and pointed down the middle and motioned for the right half of the group to go to the other side where the boys were. 'Each of you swap with one of the boys and we have our teams!'
'Teams!?' I asked Charlotte.
'Yes! Don't look so worried!'
'We're using the field as always!' Jack pointed past the gate and across the street, 'everyone make yourselves familiar with who is on your team, or more importantly who isn't!' Everyone started to look around at each other, memorising their team members. 'And as always, keep it clean!'
'What is going on!?' I said exasperatedly , but before I knew it Jack shouted.
'MANHUNT!'
