Chapter 12

After some time walking we made it to his house, Nathan was weak at the moment so I got him to hand me the keys so I could open his front door. This was more difficult to do than I had imagined as I was still holding my arm around him with my hand intertwined with his. I was determined to keep ahold of him though so I turned the key in the door with one hand eventually managing to open it after a few tries.

Nathan looked tired, he seemed to struggle to keep his eyes open as we walked though the hallway and into his living room. I sat him down and he smiled thankfully at me. 'I'm going to go and get you a drink' I said 'don't move' I left him sitting there walking into the hallway again to find the kitchen. I found it at the end of the hallway, I filled a glass of water for Nathan. Just as I was about to leave I spotted a photo on the kitchen table. It was in a brown frame and it pictured a slightly younger Nathan with his arm around a blonde girl who I presumed to be his sister. Both of them were smiling, Nathan standing much taller than his sister who looked quite a bit younger than him, it was such a cute photo.

I returned to the living room, Nathan appeared to be almost asleep, I smiled at his cute little face and the way he was lying on the sofa. I handed him the drink and he took a quick sip handing it back to me. I placed it on the side table for him.

'Come over here Sophie' he mumbled gently as he sat up slightly, leaving a space for me to sit snugly beside him. 'I'm sorry' he gently whispered, I hadn't expected him to say that. I moved away from him turning to look at his face.

'What for!? I'm the one who should be sorry, I should have ran away earlier!'

'No Sophie stop, it's my fault for asking you to meet me there so late, it was dangerous and I'm sorry you had to see what you saw' I stared at him in disbelief.

'Shut up how was it your fault!?' I'd raised my voice a little but it was making me angry that he felt guilty about it.

'I'm sorry okay' he said again but this time in a definite tone which hinted at me not to argue with him.

'Well I'm sorry too' I could see that he wanted to argue, say that I didn't need to be sorry, that I had no reason to be but he was quickly silenced as I leant against his chest, whispering 'shhh' in a comforting tone. We sat there for about 5 minutes in total silence, there was no need for either of us to talk it was nice just how it was and I wasn't going to be the one to complain as he held his arm around me. I tried to move slightly looking at Nathan, he was sound asleep and it was completely adorable. I gently took his arm out from behind my back as I got up laying it gently beside him. No one had come home in the time we'd been there so I went to look for a blanket for Nathan. I tiptoed up the stairs, not knowing how light or heavy a sleeper Nathan happened to be so I wanted to keep quiet as not to wake him. There were a number of rooms up here but it was the one at the farthest end which caught my eye. The door was slightly ajar and I could see the walls to be painted in a redish colour. It had to be Nathan's room and to say I wasn't intrigued would be a total lie. Was this a good enough excuse to go in there without permission? I thought so.

I pushed open the door gently not wanting to disturb anything or Nathan downstairs for that matter. The first thing which caught my eye was the keyboard in the corner of the room, I walked over to it pressing on the keys even though it wasn't even turned on. His bed had a red duvet to go with the walls and the carpet was a cream colour. There were wooden cupboards built in on one of the walls, I went over to open the cupboards and was met by all of Nathan's clothing. I wasn't one to be nosy, okay I'm lying so I ended up looking through Nathan's clothes for a couple of minutes. I almost forgot what I had gone in there for in the first place but I quickly remembered as I looked around the room to the small sofa in the corner, on top of which was a red blanket covering the back of it. I pulled it off and held it over my arm checking that the room was still how it was when I first came in. I closed the door to how it had been and quietly went downstairs.

Nathan was still asleep when I reached the living room and it was clear that his face had began to bruise up. I smiled at his sleeping form as I pulled the blanket up over him. I sat next to him on the sofa for a while just watching him sleep. Wait that sounds creepy, I wasn't doing it in a creepy way, he just looked so cute. It was pitch black outside and almost 9, I wanted to wake Nathan up and check he was okay so that I could leave but he seemed so peaceful just laying there with his blanket, I decided that I would leave but before I did I went over to Nathan, kissed him on the forehead gently and pulled the blanket up and little closer to his neck, as i did so I swear I saw his lips turn upwards a little into a gentle smile.
