Chapter 15
'Sophie!' Nathan smiled as he opened the door, I couldn't help but stare a little at the dark purple bruise covering his face as I felt a short burst of guilt inside me. I returned the smile as I watched his eyes pass over me. 'You look...beautiful' his eyes twitched a little as he looked away from my gaze.
'Thanks' I quietly muttered. We stood there a second and Nathan obviously began to pick up on the awkward stance I'd undertaken.
'Ah I'm sorry, come in!' He took a quick step back giving me space to go inside. I closed the door behind me, following Nathan into the living room I had been in only yesterday.
'I'll get us some drinks' he said leaving the room, I desperately tried not to stare at his turned back but it was hard to resist. I looked around the room whilst he was gone, being in a calmer situation now I was able to look properly, everything was pretty average, a normal family home but as I scanned the top shelf of the bookcase, something caught my eye. Nathan, but years younger. He looked completely adorable as he stood with a microphone stand in front him, a cheeky smile spread across his face. At that moment he returned from the kitchen, carrying two drinks. He set them down as he saw me looking. I giggled a little turning away from the photo.
'I don't think we need to be looking at that' he said in a light, cheerful tone as he went to put the frame flat on the shelf. I couldn't hold off a grin as he grew embarrassed, sitting next to me. I turned a little to face him, the mood quickly changing as I grimaced slightly at the bruise. We both knew the subject had been the elephant in the room since the second I'd set foot in his house.
'Babe, I'm fine seriously' he said taking hold of my hand.
'If you're sure' I said unconvinced, gripping his hand gently.
'I'm sure' he insisted, 'come on, let me show you something' he let go of my hand, standing up again.
I followed him over into the dining room which where he was now motioning for me to join him over at a...piano. I felt my eyes widen at the sight of it, it was black with intricate patterns covering it. A piece of art in itself. I awkwardly walked over to Nathan who leant against the piano side. He quietly patted his hand against the leather bench which accompanied it. I sat down a little reluctantly but willing to give it a try. Nathan came up behind me at that moment, surprising me as he stretched his arms around my shoulders and put his hands out to reach the keys. He slowly began to play a series of notes over and over again. His fingers rose and fell effortlessly as the sound echoed in the silent air around us. The sequence began to get stuck in my head as he continuously played it. He suddenly stopped pulling his hands back and placing them against mine. I held in a gasp as he pulled them forwards with his, holding my fingers against the piano keys.
'Your turn' he whispered gently pushing down against my forefinger. The notes started disjointed but as we repeated the sequence, I began to learn it, the pattern becoming a part of me, starting to feel natural as Nathan stopped guiding me and wrapped his hands around my neck, craning it to kiss me on the cheek. 'See, you're a natural' I blushed at the compliment as he took a step back, I watched him as he sat with me on the bench. 'Play it again babe?' His seductive tone of voice not only attracted but scared me as his hand snaked around my waist. I didn't feel nervous as I started to repeat the sequence again which surprised me greatly but I didn't question it, only enjoyed the moment.
I played it for about the fifth time, at this point I could feel that he had shuffled a little closer to me. I wanted to look at him but I determinedly focused on the piano, still repeating the pattern with continuously more ease. A second later Nathan totally shocked me, forcing me to face him as he pressed down against my hands, pulling them from the keys in a gentle but equally forceful way. I found myself doing something I'd been doing a lot lately, I gasped out loud as he grabbed my waist. 'Nathan I-' I'm not sure what made me say it but I wasn't sure of myself and I felt a little embarrassed in the situation. I was quickly and totally silenced as he pressed his finger against my lips. He'd moved once again closer to me now and I could feel my cheeks burning up as my heart pounded in my chest. I tracked the trail of his eyes as they ran from my eyes and ended firmly on my lips as he took his hand away. I froze as he edged his lips towards mine, what do I do? He must have seen the panic in my eyes,
'We'll take it slow' he whispered huskily. I saw a completely different side of the innocent, awkward Nathan as he tilted his head, leaning forwards and kissing me. He started softly as I settled into his touch. He held back a moment as I gasped for air, he smirked as he looked into my eyes, I subconsciously gave him a lusting look leading him to lean towards me again, this time kissing me harder.
It was perfect, everything about that moment until to my shock, Nathan's phone began to ring as it vibrated in his pocket. He suddenly pulled back, separating our lips. He pulled it from his pocket leaving me sitting there shocked. I watched his face drop, his eyes and expression said it all.
'Babe, I'm sorry I'm gonna have to take this' he got up and left the room, closing the door without so much as another glance.
