Chapter 4
'WHAT!?' I exclaimed, as everyone began running for the gate. Charlotte came up beside me laughing.
'The look on your face is priceless!' I turned to look at her.
'What on earth is manhunt!?' I asked her, everyone else had left the courtyard by now.
'Well basically, you have to tackle each other to the ground and once you're on the ground you're out, so run for your life I guess!' She grinned.
'Why the hell are you smiling!?' I asked. She started laughing again.
'It's fun come on!' She ran over to the gate holding it open for me, that is where the madness began.
Jack was probably the most aggressive during the game, at one point he managed to tackle two of the other boys to the ground at once 'you're both out!' he'd shouted in a very cheerful manner, jumping in celebration. The two boys went red in the face and made their way out of the field.
'How old are you seriously!?' Charlotte said to Jack, 'last time I checked you were 16!' Jack made a face like a puppy dog, I had to admit he did look quite cute.
'I'm sorry, I'm just competitive!' He laughed when someone suddenly approached him from behind. At first I hadn't seen their face but then he looked up as Charlotte and I let out a shocked gasp simultaneously as Nathan ploughed into Jack from behind. The next few seconds seemed to happen on slow motion as Jack held his hands out in front of him to avoid falling to the floor but Nathan was too strong for him and they landed in a heap, Nathan lying on top of Jack in a position which to anyone not aware of the game would have been quite disturbing. I couldn't help but laugh as they both jumped up, Jack had a look of complete and utter disbelief on his face. We all looked at each other for a minute in complete silence and that's when Nathan's eyes lit up.
'Oh my god no!' I screamed as Nathan ran past Jack and towards me, before I knew it we were both running along the side of the field. I was a pretty good runner but Nathan was gaining on me fast so I had to do something. I quickly made a left turn dodging past a tree and I ran for my life as Charlotte had suggested earlier. I was desperate to look behind me as I ran but I held off for as long as possible. The world around me rushed past as I felt the breeze against my hair, I had no idea whether Nathan was near to catching me or not but at the moment I definitely wasn't willing to find out. I carried on running, beginning to run out of breath, and space in the field, I was now comtemplating why I was even running. Surely he wouldn't tackle a girl? I was wrong.
'You can't run forever!' His deep voice shouted from behind me, as he finished shouting that is when I made my fatal move. Instead of carrying on running I took a quick glance over my shoulder, at that point he was only about a metre behind, he took a dive at me, flinging his arms around my waist, I squealed louder than I've ever squealed before. Laying on the ground in shock his body towered over me.
Time seemed to stop as our gazes met, his green eyes took hold of me as I started dazedly into them. He was wearing a bright red polo shirt which brought out his stunning features, his chocolate brown hair settled across his forehead shading his face slightly. His plump lips opened as he whispered 'you're out' brushing against my ear, I locked back to his eyes staring into the beautiful emerald pools. His button nose lowered towards me and I struggled not to let out a far from human noise.
What happened next is probably the most embarrassing moment of my entire life. I'm not even exaggerating. I closed my eyes anticipating a kiss but just as I did Nathan turned his head to the side as someone called his name, Jack and Charlotte stood over the two of us, when the kiss didn't come I had opened my eyes only to see no one in front of me. 'Pucker up ey Sophie?' Jack teased as I sat up. I ignored him and quickly turned to look for Nathan, he was now helping Alex get Danny to the ground, the three of them shouting at each other. I sat there completely mortified. What just happened?
