"I'll drive you home."
"I'll walk."
"It'll be almost an hour if you walk. I'll drive you." Toby insists.
In his car there is an awkward silence. "So how much did you hear?"
"Not much. Only that you guys aren't dating."
"Well we definitely aren't now."
"He's just in a bad mood."
"Is he? I wouldn't know because he barely tells me anything!"
"You can't expect him to."
"That's not how it should be."
"I know."

I haven't cried yet. It's funny how I hadn't cried until I saw Kyle at the cemetery when my dad died. I wonder who will bring out the water works this time.
Toby calls me and asks if I will come with him for the x-ray. So I do. I hope Kyle isn't there. I don't want to see him right now. And as much as I really don't want to see him, I also really do want to see him.
The x-ray takes about two hours. Not the x-ray itself, more just waiting in the lines and then waiting for it to be printed. One fractured rib. Ouch. Toby acts nonchalantly about it and pretends it doesn't hurt. But he whimpered like a girl when I poked him. "Bunny!"
"You said it didn't hurt." I tease.

Tonight I have work. Dammit. Kyle won't come, I know him.
And I'm right. I'm always right. Thankfully, the parlour doesn't get too busy and I just survive without him. If it was as busy as last week, I don't know if I could have managed. The customers tonight are patient strangely. I must look like a mess.
Bert comes to check on me at the last minute just as I'm locking up. "Heyyyy Crazy Kristen! How's my favourite staff member?"
"Good thanks."
"I know that's not true. Don't worry though, I won't press you. Boy trouble? Knew it. Speaking of boys, where is Kyle the Kangaroo?" He can't get weirder can he?
"Oh, umm, well he had something important on tonight so I said that I could cover for him. He would have contacted you but I told him that I would just tell you tonight."
"I'll just be docking his pay check! And you'll get double my sweet." I swear Bert sounds like a cartoon character. Are all ice-cream parlour managers this strange?
"Uh... ok."
"Great! See you next week sugar!" He scrunches his nose and then waves goodbye.

I spend all of Thursday getting ready for the mascaraed ball. I'm wearing a golden dress that hits the floor and is glittery. The top is strapless and let's just say very boob accentuating. It looks gorgeous, maybe a tad bit revealing... but still amazing. Kyle would love it.
The mask I'm wearing is white but almost gold. It's like white but in certain lights it has gold behind it and it sparkles. I have my hair down and curled like formal. I feel like a princess. Sierra and Josh are picking me up since I don't have a ride.
Sierra hugs me as soon as she sees me. "How are you?"
"I'm fine." I say. She's the first person I told about Kyle. Without Bridgette handy, I tend to run to Sierra.
"We are going to have the best night tonight. You can show off how awesome you look without him!"
"He's coming?"
