Harry's POV:
"You alright, mate?" Peter asked.
I hadn't noticed I had been intently watching Eric and Elle walk to the cottage. I turned to Peter who stood leaning on his sword.
"Uh- yeah. Yeah. I'm alright." I responded.
Peter smirked. "Elle!" He shouted.
They both turned round barely reaching the door.
"Would you mind Harry's and my help?" He asked.
"No." She answered, unbothered.
Eric's slight smile fell.
"Come on." Peter said patting my back.
-
Elle and Eric had been doing the most searching. They looked in all of the nooks and crannies. Nothing had been found. Elle mentioned that her parents wouldn't have left it for just anyone to come across. Then Eric tried to show off some of his magic. Pathetic, really. I could do his tricks faster with my hands than he could with his powers.
I stood back against the back of the cottage. I wasn't really interested in helping. I just wanted to make sure they weren't up to anything.
Eric had looked inside of the fireplace. And if I'm honest, the thought of lighting it right then, swept my mind.
"Ostendo!" Eric shouted. It echoed outside of the cottage a large blue light came from the fireplace and I just watched wondering what was meant to happen. "Elle! Elle come look!" Eric said.
Interested, I stepped closer. Peter stood behind Elle who was kneeling, trying to get a look and I stood next to Eric against the wall. Leaned up near the fireplace I noticed a brick out of place. Examining it I quietly pulled the brick out which revealed a book and a box. I looked to Peter who had been watching me and I told him to keep quiet. I carefully took the small book out. I suspected that this is what they were looking for, but in the heat of the moment, I shoved it underneath the waistline of my trousers and tucked my shirt over it.
Peter shot me a "what are you doing!?" look. I brought my finger up to my mouth and shushed him. He still looked very uneasy, so I had to explain to him. I put the brick back into it's spot and looked down at Elle and Eric who both had their heads in the fireplace. They had been talking to each other that entire time but I hadn't cared to listen.
"Um, Elle." I said. She removed her head from the fireplace. "I don't think there is much else that Peter and I can do for you, so we're just going to go for a walk."
"Um, okay." She responded, looking at Peter and then at me.
I quickly moved to Peter and escorted him out of the cottage. We just went for a walk around the woods.
"Harry what in God's name do you think you're doing?!" Peter asked once we got far enough from the cottage.
"Peter look, I know this sounds crazy but I don't trust Eric at all! Who knows what his true intentions could be when it comes to this book! As the Prince of Lathance I can't risk him finding this and using it to produce dark magic!"
"Well do you even know what's in the book? For all we know it could be recipes or something like that!"
I pulled the book from my waistline and examined it. "Majesto" was written at the bottom corner. Obviously, not a recipe book. In all corners of the book it was designed in silver swirling lines. I opened the book but there was nothing. All of the pages were blank.
"Great, Harry. You stole an empty diary." Peter said, sarcastically.
"No- No- No. Don't you see? It's magic! We're both mortals. This book is enchanted to keep mortals from seeing what's inside!"
Peter just stared at me.
"This is powerful, Peter. So powerful that Anita had asked me to deliver it to her with the wan-" A realisation just hit me. The wand. That's how I was going to see what was inside! That's what must've been in the box!
"Wait! Anita told you to steal this book and give it to he-"
"Shhh!" I said. "Peter we have to go back and get whatever else was in that hiding place!"
"What?! No! Especially if Anita is the one who wants this stuff recovered!"
"No, not for Anita! For Elle and her safety! I can't trust Eric as far as I could throw him! Just like you can't trust Anita! We are the mediation! If none of them have it then everything will be okay!"
"Harry don't be ridiculous! Elle should have it because it belongs to her!"
"Elle trusts Eric. And I'm sorry but that is not good enough for me."
"You're blinded by jealousy, Harry!" Peter shouted, through legitimate anger. "Eric is no threat to this kingdom and you know that! You just don't want him getting any closer to Elle because you're afraid she'll chose him over you! Which to be honest she may have to do because you're a prince! And to make things even worse- She's a witch! Don't hate Eric because of your social standings! Hate him because you know he's better and more realistic for El-"
Behind him, I saw a shadow move. Through his yelling I heard a crack beside us. I grabbed him and held his mouth closed. He fought himself off.
"Get off of me!" Peter shouted.
"No shhh!!" I said trying to get him to quiet down. He stopped and stared in the direction I was looking.
"Peter I think we should head back now." I said.
Without another word we started to walk back. But almost immediately, two horsemen stood before us. It was horsemen from my castle.
"Get them!" I heard someone shout. It sounded a lot like Sir Briar.
