13 YEARS LATER
"THEIF! Someone stop that girl!" The bread owner shouted.
I ran as fast as I could out of there. The man obviously caught others attention and soon a couple of angry, poorly trained guards ran after me. As the distance between me and them grew longer, my grinning grew wider. The market is full of thieves, even the ones behind the counter. We all do it. They steal our money with their over priced goods, and we steal what we can't afford because of it. I'm one to be looked out for. I've yet to be caught... physically. There is something about me that is different from most people. I have abilities that I haven't seen in others. I have no idea why, and I notice them most when I'm in trouble, like now.
The market was always full on Sundays which meant more obstacles to get through. A pool of hands came rushing towards me like waves in the ocean. One of my ablilities include being able to get out of situations easily. I prepared myself to clash with the crowd, of mostly men may I add. I held the loaf of bread close to my body and jumped over the eager crowd. I flipped above their heads and landed in a crouching position with my free hand on the floor. I stood up and waited to comprehend what I had just achieved. A hint of breath left my mouth in relief that I actually made that. The crowd turned around amazed of my tactic as well.
Our collective amazement interrupted by the three guards bursting through them.
"YOU'RE NOT GETTING AWAY GIRL!" One of them shouted.
I chuckled as I resumed my escape. This village was like a maze. Many twists and turns, an advantage for fugitives as myself. And of course I made many.. twists and turns that is. They weren't as close as I expected, but they were hot on my trail. I made my last turn, to my disappointment it was a dead-end. They were very tall walls, 9 feet high. It was too late to even turn around, the guards blocked the way. They pulled their swords out ready to spill some blood. My blood to be precise.
"Gentlemen, why pull swords out on an innocent, harmless female as myself?" I sarcastically pleaded.
"Give us the bread child, and we'll put this all behind us." The guard in the middle bargained.
"Child? I do say sir, I am a woman! Seventeen years of age." I said triumphantly.
"Stop stalling! Give us the bread!" The short fatter on hissed.
I looked down at the object that caused this all. "I would, but a girl's gotta eat." I smiled. I threw the bread up in the air and started to climb the wall with ease. I didn't dare look back but I could hear the amazement in their voices.
"How is she doing that?" One whispered.
"I don't know.." The other answered.
"Well don't just stand there with your mouths agape! Go round the wall and GET THAT GIRL!" Another demanded.
"STOP WENCH!"
I sat at the very top of the wall. The bread fell into my arms. "It's Madam to you sir." I laughed as I jumped down. This interaction was quite amusing given their expressions of anger and frustration. Little did I know, this wall seperated the market and the village. So they would have a while before they actually find me again. I threw the hood of my cloak over my head just in case someone had recognised me.
I searched for the sun. It was my only direction home. I knew that I lived in the west, and that's where the sun sets. It was soon to be sunset. I walked down the road, towards the sun. I had put the bread inside of the pocket of my cloak. After all of that running, I was starving. But I had to save it because I ran out of money and I won't have anything to eat later. Oh the joys of being poor. I fell into temptation and broke off a little piece of bread and started to nibble on it.
