As I walked up to the block of flats, I noticed two police cars parked on the side of the road. Beside them was another car I didn't recognise, it looked old and damaged. My confused thoughts were replaced with happy ones because now it was the summer holidays! No more school for six weeks and nothing but lying in, staying up late and chilling outside in the sun!
Well, that's what I thought.
I walked inside and got into the lift. My school bag felt heavy on my shoulders and my collar was irritating my neck but I didn't care. I just wanted to be inside.
Once i got to the third floor I stepped out onto the landing only to hear shouting. Worse of all, it was shouting coming from my flat, coming from my Aunt. My parents both died a few years ago so I live with my Aunt now. She's never really around so I pretty much do as I want.
I slowly approached the flat only to be stopped by a policeman. He was tall and bulky so I decided to stand aside and watch what was going to happen.
After what felt like forever, my aunt came out. She was closely followed by two policeman and she was handcuffed. "Auntie?" I cried as I began to follow her.
A hand grabbed my shoulder to stop me. I turned round, expecting to see the policeman, instead, it was just a women. "I'm Gemma." She stated. "I'm your social worker. I'm here to take care of you and accompany you to a children's care home."
Everything was happening too fast. I didn't understand. "Wait what?!" I managed to mumble.
"Don't worry. You have half an hour to pack up some things. Sadly, you cannot pack everything. I also recommend you get changed. You may use one rucksack, and one suitcase."
"Stop speaking like I'm stupid!" I yelled. "You don't even know me and already your bossing me round!"
"Listen. I'm just doing my job and I need to get to know you, you're going to be seeing a lot of me over the next few days."
"Whatever." I sighed before walking back into the flat. To my surprise, the place was trashed! Smashed pictures were on the floor, plates, cups and cutlery everywhere!I could feel tears begin to well up in my eyes so I ran to my bedroom and slammed the door. I loved my bedroom. I loved the colour of the walls, I loved my bed, I loved it all. It was the only place that was truly mine. Well it was. I couldn't live here anymore.
I reached under my bed and pulled out my suitcase. I grabbed my clothes and shoved them in along with my purse and phone. I never take my phone to school because I'm scared of it being broken or damaged. I then grabbed my wash bag and toothbrush and shoved them in there too. Then, I took the heavy rucksack off my back and emptied my school books onto the floor.
I wouldn't need them anyway if I was moving. I got a couple of reading books and my diary and teddy bear and my trainers. That was all I put in my rucksack.
I then got changed. I wore black skinny jeans and a purple and black shirt, and a dark blue hoodie. I also loved blue."Marie we need to go!" I heard Gemma shout from the other room. I took one last glance around my bedroom, before slowly making my way out with my rucksack on my back, and my suitcase trailing behind me in my left hand.
In the hall, I heard the sound of broken glass beneath my foot. I looked down to see that I had trodden on an old photo of me and my parents. I picked it up and quickly shoved it into my rucksack without Gemma noticing.
Then I followed her until we were outside. She took my rucksack and suitcase and gestured towards the old looking car. "Get in." She said.
I approached the car slowly and cautiously opened the door to the passenger seat. I noticed the cleanliness and neatness of the car before I noticed the stack of CDs between the two front seats.
I eventually sat down and did up my seatbelt. As Gemma got in, I slammed the door shut as hard as I could. Before I knew it, the engine was roaring, and we had set off.
