It seemed like for now, Amanda's plan was running perfectly smooth. The only problem now was to figure out a way to persuade Victoria to follow through with it, and keep the others distracted enough so they couldn't figure out what she really had been up to.
As Amanda was sitting on the swing alone on the school playground, she looked a little surprised to see Daniel approaching her. "Daniel. She said in a strange tone as she hadn't expected him to come to her. In fact. He never did when they were at school. "Can I talk to you!" He asked seeming somewhat bothered with whatever it was he had on his mind.
"Yes of course." Daniel took a spot on the other swing next to Amanda and looks over at her. "It's just. Are you sure this is a good idea? I don't want anybody getting hurt. I mean..."
But before he could say anything else, Amanda interrupted him. She gave a slight roll of her eyes. "Listen Daniel. You want them split up just as much as I do right?" She asks looking over at him waiting for an answer. "Yes I do..." "Then we have to do this. We all at some point do something we don't like right? But it is for the better for both of them." Daniel seemed to contemplate on this then sighed. "Alright. When were we going to do this?" Amanda smirked a little. "Well. They have a date tonight right? So wouldn't it be the perfect time?" "I guess so." Daniel said not very enthusiastically.
After school was over and David picked up Amanda, the two of them headed back to the beach house. "Dad? Why do you like Victoria? Out of all people?" David looked over at Amanda and sighed a little. "Because I think she is sweet. And caring in spite of her cool exterior rugged type. She is just going through some hard times right now. Some certain things you wouldn't be able to understand till you get older. I was hoping by now you would start to like her. She has been saying nothing but wonderful things about you."
Amanda stared at her dad in disbelief. Victoria simply was trying to butter him up till she got what she wanted. But Amanda wasn't going to allow that. And he would see the real side of Victoria tonight. "I've really tried dad. I just can't." Amanda whined a little.
David sighed a little. "You know. I already told you that I wouldn't take someone in unless I knew you both would be able to accept one another. He hesitates a moment looking at his daughter. "Can you tell me why you don't like her?" Amanda seemed to consider it a moment then gave a small shrug. "You know she's not ever going to take the place of your mother right?" He said approaching Amanda and lifting her into his arms for comfort. "I know daddy.."
As soon as it was time for Victoria to come over, Amanda got everything set up that she needed to. About half an hour before the babysitter would be coming, Amanda came downstairs looking all ragged. When she was certain her dad could hear her, she made a few fake coughs that in a way could actually sound real to someone else. David glanced up at his daughter with a bit of worry. "You alright Amanda?" She walked over to him and sat down on the couch next to him. "Daddy I think I'm catching a cold." She said in somewhat of a believable hoarse voice.
David narrowed his eyes a little and placed his hand on her forehead. "Oh my. You're burning up! We should take you into the doctor." Amanda bit her lip nervously. She didn't want him to take her in and find out she was faking. "No daddy. I will be fine I promise." She let out another fake cough. David let out a small sigh. "Here. I"m going to cancel the dinner date with Victoria and I'll reschedule to stay here with you. I wouldn't want anyone else to catch. You must've been outside too long near the waters. It is still a little cool for that.." Amanda smirked a little and laid down on her back on the couch as she waited for her father to return from the phone call.
When David returned, he sat back down next to his daughter. "I will have to call work tomorrow morning and tell them I can't come in." Amanda closed her eyes. She hadn't thought about counting on her dad doing such. He rarely missed a day's work. "No no. You don't have to do that. Can't you. Wait a minute! What about if Victoria came to watch me?" David raised his eyes slightly looking even more worried. "Now I know you are sick. I don't know sweetie." "We will be fine dad! Plus. You just said so yourself you wanted us to spend more time together. Wouldn't this be the icing on the cake? If she really did care? It could be like a test..." She grinned a little. A test that Victoria was going to surely fail.
David continued to study his daughter so he could try to read her. "Alright. I'll see if she will be willing first." Once David had gotten Amanda to sleep, he headed back downstairs to the living room, sitting on the couch trying to think. He could sense something was off about Amanda. And he knew she was going to at first have a hard time dealing with the fact he wanted to be with Victoria. But this was definitely something different. He let out a small sigh and leaned back against the couch drifting off to sleep.
The next morning, Victoria came over before Amanda had woken up. Before David had gone to work, he went to Amanda's room to check on her. She was still sleeping. Or at least it looked like she was. David closed the door again and after giving Victoria instructions, he left to go to work, making her promise that if anything major came up concerning Amanda she would call.
When Amanda heard David leave, she crawled out of bed and got ready before heading downstairs. She spotted Victoria sitting on the couch glancing out the window. "Victoria. I didn't realize you would be here already.." She grinned a little. Victoria looked up getting distracted by her thoughts and rolled her eyes. "You honestly think your father would leave you alone for five minutes?" She retorted back.
"How are you feeling?" Victoria asked when she had Amanda try some food. Amanda had pretended to only eaten a few bites before looking up to respond to Victoria. "You are right. That did make me feel a little better. But you know what might make me feel more better?" Amanda asked. Victoria raised her eye looking somewhat suspicious. "What's that?" She asked still not seeming too impressed with the kid. "If I was able to get outside and get some fresh air." Victoria shook her head. "I don't think that is a good idea. You don't want to spread the illness to others." Amanda gave a slight roll of her eye. Not even bothering to hide it. "Oh come on Vikki Vics." She smirked. Victoria gave Amanda a small glare. "I don't think your father would like that very much. "Pleeeeease?! I will love you forever!" Amanda exclaimed. She knew she was going a little overboard. But she needed this plan to work. And soon.
Victoria stayed silent a few minutes then smirked a little. "Well how can I say no to that?" She said in a fake type tone. Alright. Let's go." She said not sounding all that enthused. Amanda grinned and quickly went to grab her jacket.
