The Unstoppable

Beth

I haven't really talked about Beth much, Beth has lots of friends. And one is Jackson Voidwalker, I've seen him around every once in a while. You can tell that he likes Beth. He is a nice respectable person, he can be quiet, but he will talk to people. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen Jackson around, and I haven't seen Beth either. 

"Mom, can I go to town to get Beth?" I had a unceremonious voice. " I didn't hear a please, or hey mom, how was your day today." Great. Now she was annoyed. "You know, ever since stuff turned to crap your attitude has been atrocious". Ugh, she is annoying. " I'm sorry mom, but I don't have time to talk, I have to find Beth. Then I have a Reading class, to teach the third and second graders." My voice was pleading. " Okay, whatever Paige, be home by curfew." She didn't care. 

I didn't say anything after that and walked away. I saw Beth walking with Jackson. YES-----Was my first reaction. They were talking laughing, it almost made me sick. They got closer and I prepared myself to talk to Jackson, i'm not good at talking to people that I don't usually talk to. 

"Hey Paige, This is Jackson. Do you know him?" She smiled and looked over at him. " Yeah, I've seen him around. Hey, i'm Paige, Beth's best friend. Nice to meet you." She gave a worried look at me to stop. " So anyway, I live with Paige and her parents. They are so nice to me!" I started to laugh, then covering my lips after. " So I wanted to tell you, that Jackson and I are going out! She gave a little squeal after. "There is no going out Beth, the world is ending and nothing is going to ever be the same." This got serious. " Yeah, I know Paige." Her smile turned to a frown. " But i'm happy for you congratulations." After that I started to walk away. My voice was sarcastic and mad. " Paige, please wait.......

I walked into the school and went to the third and second grade classes. They all said " Hi Ms.Paige! They are always excited to see me. Everything after that was pretty much a blur. Parents came and picked up their children thanking me for teaching them words and learning how to read. Parents say that i'm actually good at teaching already. That their kids are learning and want to come to my class. Wow. I knew Beth was at home waiting for me to come home, but I had nothing to say to her, she isn't even worried that outside these walls is dangerous. And that the world is ending and all she can think about is Jackson. Ugh. My dad hasn't spoken to me lately. And he has been working a lot. But no one in our house cleans! My dad is all over yard work. House work? Nope. Why are we even worried about our house? The world is ending anyways.......

I walked up to the house and opened the door to find Beth pacing the floor. I thought about turning around and shutting the door in her face. But I didn't " Paige, i'm sorry. I know the world is ending and stuff, so we should live life to the fullest right now." She was out of breath and panicky. " Yeah we should, and we are. But this "Jackson" boy is not important right now. Do you know whats important? Life. That's whats important. Do you know what I do everyday? I train people, how to keep themselves safe. And then I teach little kids how to read and write. I've invited you to every class I have taught, and have you came to one? No. Because of that boy." I was angry. I wanted to yell and scream. I opened the door and started to walk. " Paige, Paige wait i'm sorry!  I put in my music and started to walk towards the wall looking for Benjamin, I wanted to see if he would talk to me. Because you know, boys are so important at this time and matter. 

I kicked around rocks and almost started to cry, because i'm just now realizing how big of a jerk my best friend is, picking a boy over me. Who has been there for her the whole time? Yeah, that was me. And she ditches me for a stupid hormonal boy. 

I could see the wall in my view. I was in the middle of town. I was walking and I heard screaming, followed by gun shots. A shotgun. I pulled out my gun and ran towards the building and squatted on the side of the wall pulling out a walky-talky my dad gave me. " Code Red Code Red. " I couldn't  catch my breath. " Location?" He was calm." "Main street." My breath was normal now. " One got in, they got it. Unlucky the lady got bit. They seem to be taking her somewhere past the wall. Can't see where now. Come home A-S-A-P." He is so smart. 

I turned around and tucked in my gun, " whatcha doing?" I bumped into.........Benjamin? " Benjamin, oh gosh i'm sorry." My shirt was showing some skin. I fixed myself and put the walky-talky away.

 " Looks like you have had training?" Wow. " Yeah, I teach classes. You should come. Start tomorrow at school in the gym?" I was dying inside. " Okay. What time?" He was serious. " Hmm around noon will do."
