31. Mark (Boombox: Part 2)

It all seems like a dream you thought. That seeing Mark on the bed with wires and machines surrounding his unconscious body, seems all so sudden for you.

It has been almost three months since he was confined. That night when he told you he had cancer, he blacked out right after. You were the one who brought him in and called his parents.

"Mark, when will you wake up?"

Everytime you visit him you ask him when he will wake up but you get no response, seeing that he's been long asleep in a coma.

"Wakey, wakey! It's your favorite!"

You would bring him his favorite dishes even though you know he wouldn't be able to eat it.

"You will not believe what just happened today! You know crazy Dave from our neighbourhood? That one who gave me his chicken for my 18th birthday? He just got married with that pretty secretary down the street!"

You would tell him about the things that happened everyday, even the craziest and funniest scenarios and those little things that you knew he would smile if he really heard it.

"Look! I passed the board exam!"

You would tell him about your achievements and goals that you knew would make him hug and congratulate you.

"Can you see this? That's right! I got my first job!"

You would show him pictures of your first time events even though you know he woudn't be able to see it.

"Work's great, Mark. I wish you could visit me there though."

You would tell him about your experiences and always wish for him to visit you at your work.

"Oh my gosh, Mark! I met this really nice guy and he looks just like you!"

You would tell him about the people you meet everyday.

"Oh! Remember that time when we were caught cheating in class? The teacher scolded us and you told him 'It's called teamwork, sir!'."

You would remind him of the mischiefs you two did before when you were younger.

"I'm sorry I didn't visit you yesterday, I had a really tight schedule."

Now that you have work, you had spent lesser time visiting him at the hospital.

"Remember that guy I told you about? Well... we're engaged now."

You waited for him.

But he didn't wake up.

It was time to let go they said, and you did.

But you didn't forget, you just moved on with your life.

You didn't forget about him and your memories with your bestfriend,

Mark Tuan.

The day of your wedding came and you're wearing your wedding gown. This is it, you thought. The day of a new beginning, the day you will put aside your past memories and make new ones.

And then your phone rings.

"Yeoboseyo?" You take the phone and put it over your ear.

"______?" It's his mother. "What's wrong, ahjumma?"

"My son, he... he..." She sobs.

"What? What happened to Mark?" You shout.

"The bride shall enter the hall now." One of the staff says. They immediately pull you to a door and you accidentally drop the phone.

"He woke up! ______? Are you still there?"

"Now, let me present to you, our bride, _____!" You gulp.

Should you stay? Or runaway?

Epilogue

Before she ran away, she apologized to her husband-to-be and he replied that it was alright because he was also waiting for someone he truly loved.

She went to the hospital still in her wedding dress. She didn't care as long as she can see Mark again, now awake.

And just like what his mom said, he has woken up again. 

He was also surprised to see what she was wearing and jokingly asked if she proposed to him while he was sleeping.

He also apologized to her for making her wait for him for a very long time and said that he will fight his sickness for the both of them to be together again.

And by together again, he meant that they will start all over, but not just as friends, but as new lovers who will start not just a new beginning, but a better one as well.

And they lived happily ever after like how crazy Dave and his wife did.
