"You know I can't promise you that." You put your hand over his.

"But you said you'll stay with me forever." He says on the verge of crying his heart out.

"That was before, Mark. Before I got stucked with these stupid machines." You chuckle only making him frown more.

"Why did it have to be you?" His eyes start to pour out all his emotions as he puts his forehead on your hand.

"Mark... oppa... jagiya..."

"Why can't it be just me?"

"Yah! Don't say that! Don't you know how it hurts when you're on chemotherapy? It hurts a lot!"

"But it hurts more when you're gone... forever."

Your smile slowly fades away knowing that you're on the brick of losing your life anytime.

"But I'll always be in your heart, right?" You caress his hair.

"But I can't touch you, or hug you, or even kiss you. I can't even see you anymore when the time comes."

"Then I'll just haunt you!" You make ghost sounds which makes him smile a bit.

"Oh so you're going to watch me shower?" He smirks and you flick his forehead.

"Ani!"

"Just kidding!"

"Mark, can you promise me something?"

"Yeah, anything for you."

"Mr. Tuan? Can you please leave for a moment, we need to check her up again." Two nurses enter then Mark leaves.

The sharp needle gets inserted to you again for the fifth time already this day. You breathe in and close your eyes to prevent yourself from feeling the pain.

"Thank you."  The nurses leave but Mark doesn't return.

Suddenly you feel pain on your arm, then another one on your legs, your body is being attacked by numerous pains so you push the bell to call the nurses before you finally black out.

Mark's POV

After the nurses enter her room, I look at her by the little round glasswindow on the door. She closes her eyes when the needle goes inside her, it must really hurt, huh?

I know just the thing to make her happy again, chocolates.

I walk to the canteen downstairs and go in line. They are many people in here so I wait for my turn.

Suddenly a group of nurses quickly come rushing in towards upstairs, it must be really something urgent. I hope whoever the patient is, will get better.

"Mark, can you promise me something?"

"Yeah, anything for you."

"If I don't make it-" "Hey, don't say that."

"No Mark, it's either the one or the other, either I'll stay or I'll di- leave."

"I guess we really can't escape it."

"I really wish we could but... there's no other way."

"Maybe you're right, so, what do you want me to promise?"

"Promise, that's a really big word if you ask me. Some people say it's meant to be broken, but for me it's not, especially when the person whom you promised is someone you can trust. So Mark, can you promise me that you'll move on when I'm already gone? I don't want you to cry over me because if you do, those tears won't even make me come back again. I want you to be happy with your life and if you can, find someone you'll truly love, someome that can love you more than me."

"______..."

"Promise?" She sticks out her pinky finger.

"I... I promise." I put out my thumb and she tilts her head in confusion.

"Here," I wrap my thumb around hers. "Our pinkies are thin and small, they can be easy to be broken but with our thumbs, it will not. So, my promise can never be broken." I say and smile at her.

4 years later

Hmm... how long has it been? I don't know but it's been a really long time since I came here, sorry.

Remember that day when we made our promises? Well, I hope you're happy because I didn't break it.

I really thank you because I met you. Before, I wasn't that of a talker but you came along and almost everyday there was sunshine in my life.

I hope you're not watching me shower though, but if you do, I wouldn't mind, hehe.

So how is it up there? What does God look like? Does it really have long golden stairs like in that Tom and Jerry episode? I hope so because my childhood would be ruined if it didn't.

Oh, can you say hello to my grandparents for me? That'll be great.

Are you eating well? Dang, that's a really stupid question. Ghosts don't eat, right? Or do they? Hmm...

You're laughing right now, aren't you? I thought so.

I really hope I can see you now. I feel like an idiot talking to your grave while my 2 year old is looking at me.

Oh there she is again, laughing at me.

Her name's Jackie by the way, "Say hi, Jackie!"

Ow! She hit me! Well that's what you'd get if you tell your daughter to say hello to a grave.

"Hey Mark!"

Oh, the wife's calling me, see you then?

.

.

.

See you too, Mark...

*sniff* *sniff* That was so beautiful! *cries again embarrasingly* >_<
