Chapter 2

Mackenzie's P.O.V

"Freak." Jessica yelled as she pushed my books onto the floor.

I bent down to pick them up and she kicked me so I fell onto the floor. She continued to kick and spit on me until she grew tired of it and walked away from me. I was about to get up when someone else came towards me and held me down while their friends kicked and punched me. Who knew eight year olds could be so aggressive huh? People came over to join in and soon enough a whole crowd was gathered around me while I was trying to hard note to freak out. I hated being the centre of attention.

"Worthless."

"Fat."

"Ugly."

"Pathetic."

"Annoying."

"Unloved."

"Unwanted."

The insults carried on as they echoed inside my head. I just stayed still until I blacked out a few minutes later when something was thrown at me. The last thing I heard was someone shouting and another person picking me up into their arms.

30 minutes later

"Mackenzie?" I heard mum whispering. I opened my eyes a few minutes later. I groaned as I tried to sit up on a bed. I looked around me dazed and confused.

"W-what happened?" I asked mum as I looked at her.

"You fainted." Mum replied to me as she felt my forehead to see if I had a temperature.

"Mum I'm fine." I lied as I moved her hand away from me.

"Are you sure? Have you eaten enough today? Did you eat your lunch?" I interrupted her.

"Mum. I'm FINE okay." I snapped at her.

"People don't faint for no reason Mackenzie. What happened?"

My mind thought back to the words that people were yelling at me. "I-I don't remember." I stuttered as I looked down at my hands.

Mum sighed a minute later. "Well that's convenient. Now come on let's get you home and into bed." Mum replied to me a second later.

Mum helped me up and carried me towards the car. She helped me into the car and put my seat belt on before she closed the door behind her. She got in and then pulled out of the parking space.

We drove home in silence until mum pulled up on the drive way and looked at me. "Mackenzie you would tell me if something was wrong wouldn't you?" Mum asked me. I nodded in response

My mum carried me up the stairs as soon as we were inside. She tucked me in and kissed me on the forehead as her eyes fell onto something. "Mackenzie. Why is there a bruise forming on your cheek?" Mum asked me.

"I fell." I lied to her. Mum looked at me for a second before she started laughing.

"What are we going to do with you Mackenzie?" She chuckled as she kissed me on the forehead. "Now get some sleep. It will make you feel better honey." She told me. I nodded my head before I rolled over and closed my eyes. I heard mum going out of the room and closing the door a few minutes later and going down the stairs.

I tossed and turned for half an hour before I gave up on sleeping. I stayed in my bed for another few minutes until I got up and went towards the music room. I closed the door before I sat down on the piano stool and started to press the piano keys.

What if I told you
Who I really was
What if I let you in on my charade?

What if I told you
What was really going on
No more masks and no more parts to play

Theres so much I want to say
But Im so scared to give away
Every little secret that I hide behind
Would you see me differently?
And would that be such a bad thing
I wonder what it would be like
If I told you

What if I told you
Thats its just a front
To hide the insecurities I have

What if I told you
That Im not as strong
As I like to make believe I am

Theres so much I want to say
But Im so scared to give away
Every little secret that I hide behind
Would you see me differently?
And would that be such a bad thing
I wonder what it would be like
If I told you

Oh if I told you

Theres so much I want to say
But Im so scared to give away
Every little secret that I hide behind
Oh would you see me differently?
And would that be such a bad thing
I wonder what it would be like
If I told you

What if I told you
What if I told you
What would it be like
What would it be like
If I told you
Oh what if I told you
Oh I wonder what it would be like
If I told you

I stopped singing as I played the last chord to the song. I was about to turn around and go back into my room when mum spoke up. "Mackenzie? What's going on?" She asked me. "And no more lies."
