Chapter 16
Mackenzie's P.O.V
I watched as Sophie silently got on with her homework. I couldn't help but think that something was going on because she hadn't been her normal self recently. I took a deep breath before I said anything to her. "Sophie is everything okay?" I asked her
Sophie shrugged. "Of course it is. Why wouldn't it be okay Mac?" Sophie questioned me a second later as she looked at me.
"Because you've been acting rather strange recently Sophie. I haven't turned into a pineapple yet but if Jessica is giving you issues I'm sure mum and dad could talk to your teacher." I suggested to Sophie
"No. You're not to say a word about this to mum or dad!" She told me.
"But they could..." I started but stopped as soon as she looked at me.
"No they can't because it's nothing to do with school." She replied to me.
"Is it that you haven't worked out how to become a unicorn yet?"
"What? No of course it isn't." I frowned a second later
"Then what is it? Have you changed your mind and suddenly want to be a pineapple shark as well?" I asked.
"Mackenzie will you stop coming up with this ridiculous ideas." Sophie screamed at me
"But I wanna be a pineapple." I replied to her.
"Mackenzie just stop." Sophie continued.
"Do you think we should be unicorns instead?" I questioned
"Mackenzie..."
"I know we can both be fire breathing dragons." I screamed
"MACKENZIE. IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR RIDICULOUS AND STUPID MAKE BELIEVE." I looked at her for a second before I answered her back a few seconds later.
"Someone obviously got out of bed on the wrong side this morning." I muttered under my breath.
"Mackenzie mum's pregnant."
I fell silent a second later. I felt my anxiety levels increase as I remembered what happened last time. Sophie stared at me a second later.
"Mum can't be pregnant. She would have told us..." I trailed off.
"Their planning to tell us after dinner." Sophie explained to me.
"How do you know?" I asked her
"I overheard them talking about it." Sophie replied to me. I felt confused apart of me was excited, another part of me was scared and there was another part of me that was angry with mum and dad for not telling me
"I'm going to talk to them about it." I announced before I went towards the door but Sophie blocked my exit.
"No Mac they can't know that we know. Just wait until later on when they announce it." She told me.
"But..." Sophie looked at me sternly.
"Please Mackenzie?" I sighed in defeat.
"Fine." I mumbled before I sat down on my bed.
"Thank you." Sophie sighed in relief as she turned to do her homework.
"Oh and remember that when they tell us we're not meant to already know so you have to act surprised."
"Yes I know." I sighed as I laid down on my bed. I stared at the wall next to my bedside table for a few minutes as the room filled with silence.
Sophie sat doing her homework for the rest of the afternoon while I just stared at the wall. I wonder if I could teach the new baby how to become a pineapple shark...
Dad knocked on the door a little while later snapping me out of my thoughts.
"It's awfully quiet in here girls what are you up to?" He joked as he came into the room. I sat up and crossed my arms across my chest.
"Oh nothing. Just talking about the new baby." I told him casually. My dad's eyes widened for a second before he said anything.
"Mackenzie I..." He started but I interrupted him.
"I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR IT DAD. HOW COULD YOU KEEP SOMETHING LIKE THIS FROM ME DAD?" I yelled at him a second later.
"Mackenzie listen to me." Dad started again.
"NO! I HATE YOU!" I screamed at him before I ran out of my bedroom and sprinted down the stairs. Mum came towards me a second later.
"Mackenzie what's wrong?" She asked as she tried to comfort me. I pulled away from her and headed towards the door.
"Leave me alone." I told her as I put my shoes on.
"Mackenzie you're not going out on your own." Mum said to me sternly as dad hurried down the stairs.
"Well I don't want to stay here when people lie and keep things from me." I shouted before I sprinted out the door before they could do anything to stop me.
