Chapter 10
Mackenzie's P.O.V
I knocked on my dad's office door. A minute later I heard him getting up and opening the door. "Dad can I talk to you?" I asked him nervously as I started to fiddle with my hands. He stepped aside so I could go into the room.
Dad shut the door before he went and sat back down on his chair. I sat beside him a turned the chair so I was facing him. He raised his eyebrows
"Can I be home schooled?" I blurted out a second later. I opened my eyes and looked at my dad as soon as I came out with the question. He looked at me confused.
"I thought you didn't want to be home schooled. I thought you wanted to be an average child." Dad reminded me as he repeated the words I'd said when I was five years old. I looked away from him as I shrugged my shoulders.
"I guess I changed my mind." I replied to him as I looked down at the floor.
"Mac this isn't anything to do with being bullied is it?" Dad asked me. I looked up at him.
"I just want it all to stop." I whispered as I fought back the tears that were already forming in my eyes. I wasn't lying, I did want the bullying to stop and part of the reason I wanted to be home schooled was because of the bullying. But I also wanted to stop seeing him and being around him.
"Mac you can't run away from everything." Dad told me one second later
"But it won't stop." I replied to him. I wasn't sure if I was referring to the bullying or him.
"But you don't solve that by running away." Dad continued. I looked up at him.
"Well staying at that hell hole doesn't seem to be doing anything either dad." I retorted.
Dad chuckled at the word 'hell hole' I looked at him confused. "You're so much like me." He responded. "I used to refer to call school a hell hole as well."
"But you were never bullied dad. No one bullied you because you were considered cool." I replied to him. My dad raised his eyebrows at me a second later.
"Oh really?" He asked as he pulled his sleeves up. My eyes fell onto the scars on my dad's arms.
"I never fitted in at school Mac. I was a complete outcast." My dad added
"Then you would know how much those words hurt." I reminded him as I looked up at him.
"Yes. I do. Words sting and cut into you in ways people will never see. I know that Mac. But you have to hold your head up high and carry on until the end."
"But what if I can't dad. I don't want to have to face Jessica or him again." I said to him. My dad furrowed his eyebrows at me in confusion a second later
"Who's him?" He asked me.
"One of Jessica's friends." I lied. "He's worse then her." Dad looked at me sympathetically.
"They even know about my...mum." I continued. "I don't know how they found out but they know."
"What have they said?" He asked me.
"That my mum was right to abuse me and do those things to me." I whispered. My dad sighed before he picked me up and placed me on my lap.
I buried my head into his chest as he wrapped his arms around me. "Look Mackenzie. What your mother did was wrong. Nothing on this earth could justify what she did. You didn't deserve to go through that. No kid deserves to go through that. It doesn't matter what anyone else says. It was wrong for her to do those things to you." He told me before he kissed my forehead.
"I know." I told him as I looked up at him a minute later.
"I know that you know. I'm just reminding you." My dad replied to me
"So that's a no to being home schooled?" I asked him a second later. He sighed.
"I'll talk to your mum but for now, I think it's best for you to stay in school." My dad replied.
I nodded my head as my dad glanced at the clock. "And right now it's time for bed." He continued. I jumped off his lap a second later and followed him towards the door. As soon as I reached the door my dad picked me up and placed me on his hip.
"Aren't I too heavy for you to pick up now dad?" I asked him as I wrapped my arm around him.
"Not quite yet. Plus, I'm trying to make the most of you being small enough for me to pick up. You're growing way too fast and before I know it you're going to be eighteen." Dad pouted as he carried me out of the room.
I laughed. "I have quite a few more years before I'm eighteen, dad." I reminded him as I placed my head on his shoulder. My dad smiled as he kissed my cheek.
He carried me upstairs and into mine and Sophie's room. Sophie was already in bed and asleep as we went into the room. Dad placed me on the bed before I grabbed my PJ's and changed into them. He pulled back the covers as I went towards my bed and climbed on top of it. He tucked me in before he kissed me goodnight.
"Goodnight baby girl." He whispered as I closed my eyes.
"Goodnight Daddy." I whispered back before I felt my eyes go heavy and fell asleep.
