Chapter 15

Mackenzie's P.O.V

My dad dodged past me as he ran towards the basketball hoop and scored yet another point.

I pouted as he turned around and cheered. I crossed my arms as I went towards the patio doors. "Mac c'mon you aren't giving up are you?" He asked me.

"Yes. I suck at spots." I told him.

"None of us are good at everything Mac." My dad pointed out as he sat beside the pool. He took his shoes and socks of before he placed his feet in the water.

"Unless you are Sophie. Than you are." I sighed as I copied him.

"Sophie is good at maths and English but she finds other subjects difficult." Dad tried to comfort me.

I raised my eyebrows at him before I said anything. "Yeah but those are the subjects you need to be good at. You can't do anything if you can't write properly or do simple maths."

"That's true. But who said you weren't good at those things?" My dad asked me. I looked at him as if he was crazy.

"Dad I have Dyslexia. My grades at school were really bad." I reminded him. My dad raised his eyebrows.

"Mac Dyslexia doesn't affect your intelligence. In fact your IQ level is above most people your age. You just learn in a different way." Dad replied to me.

"Your ADHD doesn't help the whole concentration thing either, but who said that we have to sit still for long periods of time in order to learn? Who said that we can't be active and learn at the same time?" Dad challenged me.

I shrugged my shoulders a second later.

The next day

I woke up the next morning at the same time as Sophie and went downstairs for breakfast. I noticed my dad outside.

"What's dad doing mum?" I asked her curiously as I sat down at the table with Sophie

"Preparing your maths lesson for this morning." Mum told me as she sat two pancakes in front of me. I poured some syrup on top before I reached out to get the chocolate sauce. My mum hit my hand away before I could reach it though.

"Mackenzie, no." Mum told me.

"But...but it's chocolate." I pouted.

"No." Mum said sternly.

"But if I have maths today I need something to save me from the torture." I tried to reason with her.

"Mac stop being such a drama queen." Mum told me as she rolled her eyes.

"And I think you need to try my maths lessons before you call them torture Mackenzie Louise." Dad said as he came in.

"All maths is torture." I replied to him. My dad raised his eyebrows at me a second later.

"Oh really? Is that a challenge Mackenzie." He asked as he sat down beside me. Sophie stood up and went upstairs to brush her teeth.

"No because all maths is boring." I continued before I finished my pancake.

"Then you obviously haven't seen the way I teach maths Mac."

An hour later

Me and my dad were stood outside where a sort of assault course was set up in front of me. I looked at my dad.

"The goal is to run through the hoops and collect as many bean bags as possible before the time runs out. As soon as the time has run out you need to bring them here and work out your score. All of the bean bags have a sum on it, and the answer is how many points you get." He told

me.

"Then as soon as we're finished we can go out for ice cream?" I asked him excitedly

"I don't know about the ice cream." He chuckled.

"But I want chocolate sauce more than I want to be a pineapple and I really want to be a pineapple daddy." I told him.

"Why?" He asked me.

"Because they have prickly things so I can poke Jessica and her friends...or I could be a shark and eat them." I trailed off as my thoughts distracted me as I thought of Jessica screaming as I chased after her. I started to laugh at the picture in my head a second later.

"I could even make it look like an accident..."

"Okay Mackenzie the game is up. When did you listen to me and Demi talking about Marcus?" He asked me a second later.

"I didn't..." I trailed off as he looked at me sternly.

"Two weeks ago when Demi was talking about stabbing him to death..." I trailed off a second later.

"Just don't tell anyone else about it okay?" Dad asked. I nodded my head.

"Now on your marks. Get set and...GO." My dad shouted a minute later as I turned to face the course in front of me

I picked up as many bean bags as I could before I ran back to place them on the floor. I ran back and forth for five whole

minutes before Dad's timer went off. As soon as it went off I ran towards him and sat down beside him.

"Now we need work out how many points you got Mac okay?" Dad asked me. I nodded my head at him a second later.

We started to count up all the points together. Dad smiled at me every time I got the answer right. He also high fived me.

As soon as we were finished we worked out that I'd gotten twenty six points all together!

"Now can I have an ice cream daddy?" I asked him as I looked up at him with puppy eyes.

"Yes my pineapple shark. We can go get ice cream now. I need to get changed first though." Dad replied to me a second later.

"Okay and Dad?" He turned around to look at me.

"This wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be." I admitted. He smirked at me before he started laughing a minute later.

"I'm glad." He replied to me
