Chapter 3

Mackenzie's P.O.V

I looked down at the ground for a minute. "Mackenzie I'm waiting." Mum told me as she crossed her arms. I stay quiet for a few minutes. A few minutes later the phone went. I sighed in relief as mum groaned before she went out of the room. "Don't move from this spot Mackenzie." She told me firmly before she went into the hallway and down the stairs. Well that was a close one. I thought to myself as I got up and went into my room

2 hours later

"Mackenzie. The food isn't going to magically disappear if you keep picking at it and sticking your nose up at it." Dad told me

I looked up at him. "I know. I'm not stupid." I replied to him a second later.

"Then eat your food Mac. If you don't eat any food you won't get desert." My dad continued.

"I don't want any desert. I don't want any food. I want you to leave me alone." I snapped at him. I pushed my chair back before I threw my fork on my plate and stormed out of the room

"What did I say?" I heard my dad asking Mum. I went up into my room and slammed the door behind me. Before you say anything I'm not anorexic. I don't want to lose weight. I don't think I'm fat. I just can't eat half the food my dad prepares for us. The texture makes my stomach turn and my body won't let me swallow it. It was frustrating because I wanted to eat my food but I physically couldn't unless my body liked the texture of it.

My mum knocked on my bedroom door. "Mac. Can I please come in?" She asked as she opened the door slightly so she could see me.

"I'm fine mum." I told her. Mum came into the room and closed the door behind her before she came towards me. She sat down on my bed.

"Really because I don't think you are. Mac you used to love food just like your dad. You used to love cookies and chocolate and now you refuse to eat them. Is there something I should know about?" I shook my head. I didn't know how to explain it

"Mac can I please see your arms?" Mum asked me. I looked up at her before I shook my head.

"I'm not self harming Mum." My mum looked at me for a second

"Then why won't you let me see your arms? I've already seen the scars your mother gave you Mac." Mum questioned as she raised her eyebrows. I sighed a second later before I pulled the selves on my arm up so she could see them. Her eyes widened

"Mac. Where did these bruises come from?" My mum asked me

"Nowhere." I lied to her as I looked down at my arms. The kids had given them to me.

"Mac I thought I told you earlier no more lies. Don't make me go and get your dad." My mum warned me. I looked up at Mum

My dad knocked on the door a second later. He came inside and sat next to me on the other side. "I'm going to check on Soph." mum announced as she got up and went out of the room leaving me and my dad on my own.

"What's going on?" Dad asked me.

"Nothing." I replied to him. "I'm just not hungry."

Dad laughed. "Well that's a first Mac." He said as I laid down on my bed. He laid down next to me and put an arm around me

"Dad?" I said randomly. He looked at me.

"I-I'm still your little girl. Right?" I asked him.

"You'll always be my little girl. You know that Mac."

The room fell into silence again.

"Daddy? Will you sing to me?" I asked him as I looked at him.

His eyes lit up as soon as I said that. He nodded his head at me.

Your little hands wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in and turn on your favorite nightlight

To you, everything's funny
You got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have honey
If you could stay like that

Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
No one will desert you
Just try to never grow up
Never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At fourteen, there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out
Someday and call your own shots

But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older too
And don't lose the way that you dance around in your p.j.s getting ready for school

Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple
And no one's ever burned you
Nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to
Just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother's favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder than I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my nightlight on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up
Oh I don't wanna grow up
Wish I'd never grown up
Could still be little
Oh I don't wanna grow up
Wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple

Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh darling don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to
Please try to never grow up
Don't you ever grow up
Just never grow up
