Chapter Twenty Three

Aria's POV

"Can you believe we only have a week left until school?" Hanna said as she grabbed her Chinese food.

"Yeah, we've made it this far. I can't believe it." I replied looking at my phone.

"Who are you texting?" Spencer said in unison.

"Oh, just someone."

Really, it was Ezra, but I didn't tell them it was.

I wish you were with me. One more week left. Love you. ~Ezra

"You're blushing!" Emily said as she laughed.

"Come on, Aria! Tell us who this guy is. Is it Jake? What the hell happened to him anyways."

I didn't want to tell him that Ezra was shot by Jake and we broke up.

"Um, it's kinda a long story." I began.

"Well, I wanted to confront Ezra about how i felt about him and-"

"Wait, how did you feel about him?" Hanna said as she tried to talk with her mouth full.

"Hey, I'm telling the story. Anyways, Jake followed me there. And he uh" I looked down and dropped a tear.

"Oh, Aria. I'm so sorry." Spencer said as she rubbed my back and gave me a hug.

"Yeah it's fine. Ezra came and I went inside and I thought Jake had left but..."

"But what? What happened?" Hanna said as she put her food down.

"Jake shot Ezra." I looked up at the ceiling.

"Oh my god."

"Yeah, Ezra's fine now. I went to check on him last night and I wanted to thank him for protecting me and stuff."

"You two make the best couple ever. I wish people would see that."

"I know. I wish too. Just one more week and we're free!"

"So that's who the text was from?"

"Yeah. How are things with Paige?"

"You know. It's hard. She's going to Stanford and I'm not."

"It'll get better Em."

We talked for the rest of the night and we fell asleep.
