My family is huge; we are 5 boys and 3 girls. I'm the middle child so I tend to be left alone as my parents consult with the older siblings and fuss over the younger ones, so they don't notice if I'm out for a few hours or so. Not that they normally mind if we out, I mean really a wolf can look out for itself once its old enough. The family is strict to pack laws and regulations, and I try hard to keep most of them but sometimes it's just not possible especially when it comes to a girl.

Why do I continue to think about Xenia? She's just another girl from the school. Snap out of it Joshua, get your head straight and out of the clouds. Just open the door and talk to dad already

"Hey Dad? Can we talk?" I ask respectfully.

"Yes sure, what is it Joshua?" Dad asks with a raspy voice, sitting up in bed and taking a swig of water.

"How do you know if you found your mate? How does it feel when you first notice your mate?" I blurt out faster with each word.

"I was hoping you'd ask," He states knowingly, "You found someone at school, a human girl. Joshua it is not an easy thing to date and mate with a human girl, but I see the curiosity of her in your eyes. What is bothering you son?"

"Dad I think she is a Carter, yet I'm attracted to her, I am confused as to what to do." I stammer at my newly found attractions towards Xenia

"This is a troubling situation especially seeing as to what she is" he states with a deep train of thought over his face, "see if you can ignore the impulses for her, and then maybe you can answer this on your own."

"Thanks Dad" I reply "I have to get to school now"

"Gee that was helpful" I say to myself disgruntled as I grab my school bag and head out the door.

The bus arrives at the bus stop and I jump on well before it pulls off. Sitting against the window I stare outside at the newly forming clouds and I know it's about to rain soon. I sigh at the thought of having wet hair and clothes, and to make matters worse it's my moon cycle for wolf morphing so I'll stink of wolf. My little sister Nedira sits next to me on the bus, we the only two old enough for high school. She's psychic and many a time it can be so annoying, but luckily for me I have dirt on my little sister and so she can't spill the things that I do if they wrong or right.

"Josh, looks like your day is going to be pretty bleak. It's going to pour while you doing PT outside." She grins with the look of 'you in for it now big brother'.

I sigh as the bus pulls to a stop and a crowd of school children pile in around us. The bus jerks forward as the driver is unnerved by the noise the students are making in the back of the bus, knowing that something is going to happen to his poor bus. Nedira gets up and heads to the front of the bus, I decide to follow suit with the ill gut wrenching feeling I get inside me. Next thing we know a fight breaks out and the students land on the seats we were at a few seconds ago.

"Thanks sis" I whisper into her ear. She just grins and nods at me.

The fight soon ends and the bus goes quiet for the rest of the ride to the next stop. At this point Xenia gets on the bus instead of walking to school like I sometimes see her do.

"Hey. Over here" Nedira calls to Xenia who turns and sees her waving at Xenia This is going to be awkward I think to myself as Nedira sits between Xenia and me.

"Hi." Xenia says a bit unsure about what to say to us.

"Hey," I return the gesture to Xenia feeling really awkward

"And who might you be?" Xenia says with a small grin on her face staring down at my little sister

"I'm Nedira" Nedira pipes up with an excited voice, "I'm his little sister" and she points at me while pulling a funny face at me.

The bus pulls to a stop and Nedira hops out first, "well aren't you two coming?" she leans in and grabs Xenia by the hand and practically drags her out. Xenia has this stunned look on her face. I just stare in wonder and embarrassment, while taking the steps out of the bus. Nedira locks arms with Xenia and skips out through the crowded students in the hallways. Gee where did she come from I wonder to myself while gathering my books and clearing my thoughts.

The first few classes go by rather slowly without any major points of interest. Lunchtime arrives and well, it was quite a sight to see Nedira bragging to Xenia about me. One thing I forgot I had was amazing hearing I saunter over to the table and chastise Nedira with a scowling look. She stops and sips on her juice box.

"Sorry if she's bugging you. Nedira tends to grab hold of people and doesn't let them go" I give Nedira another scowling look

She looks up at me with a sad I'm sorry look, before staring at and longing for my juice box. I hand it to her and she downs that one to.

"Ah, that hit the spot" she states rubbing her tummy

Xenia and I burst out laughing. She gives us both a weird look as though we crazy, while munching her turkey mustard sandwich. She pops the last mouthful into her mouth and chews rapidly. Swallowing it down she pokes Xenia on the arm.

"Nedira, stop that now" I scold her

"What? I can't help that I approve of your girlfriend" she states happily before hopping off her seat and stealing my chocolate bar. She races off into the crowds of students entering the cafeteria.

Xenia and I look at each other for a few seconds before bursting out in laughter at the ridiculous idea of dating each other, even though I know Nedira is telling the truth.

"Well, I'll see you in art later" Xenia remarks while standing up from the lunch bench and walks off but before turning the corner into the passageway she waves at me and disappears into the bustling of students.
