JOSHUA'S POV

A car is caught in a bizarre and freak storm, the driver nervous as he races down the deserted forest road heading to a secret location where he can be alone. Lightning flashes red and blue across the blackened night sky, the moon barely showing its pale white hue behind the storm clouds. Rain and hail pelt the car's windscreen, adding fear and tension to the driver. He races deeper into the woods on a now slippery and muddy road. Sweat dripping off his brow and onto the wet shirt.

A small figure lies asleep in the back of the car, his little sister. She wakes with a jolt to the massive clap of thunder as a bolt of lightning etches over her fear ridden sleepy face; their fear is intensified as more lightning shrouds the sky.

A tree is struck in the distance and the driver avoids the tree only to veer off the muddy road and flip the car into a spiralling frenzy down the steep embankment alongside the road...

A few minutes later he wakes to see his little sister staring into his face with worry written all over her fragile tear stained face. She sighs in relief that he is finally awake and alright. He tries to move but something has pinned his leg to the car. After a gruelling long time they manage to wriggle his leg free. Him hopping and her slowly walking they continue on their frightful trip to the secret location. There are medical supplies and a phone to use.

"Only a few more miles big brother" She stammers frozen cold from the pelting rain.

"Yes, little sis, we'll be there soon and you can get warm" he reassures his little sister trying to be strong for the both of them.

They continue walking and head straight into an ambush of wolves. Fear once again sets in and they try to make a run for it. Too slow, the wolves snap their jaws around his leg and pin him down. Lying face down in the wet gritty mud he hears his sister's screams from ahead as she too is pinned to the ground.

Joshua wakes up with a jolt at the memory of the events a few days back. Sweat dripping off his bare chest, he clambers out of bed with his heart racing, stumbling to the window with a dizzying head ache, he opens it and breathes in some fresh night air. He grabs a shirt from his closet and tosses it on. Heading to the kitchen he slowly calms his beating heart by checking up on his soundly sleeping sister.

Thank goodness for being a wolf, he thinks to himself as he shuffles down the stairs, at least we heal rapidly, but poor Nedira she got the brunt of the attack, and she is only a small wolf pup.

Opening the fridge he pokes his head inside and grabs the ice and bottled water. Munching some ice before the fridge door is even closed

"Can't sleep either, ay?" Nedira says more awake than he is. She saunters into the kitchen and sits on the kitchen counter swinging her legs softly while grabbing a stick of dried meat and munching on it joyfully. Gnawing away she stares at Joshua. He is pale in his face and looks at her with fear set in his eyes, the glass drops from his hand and shatters across the floor. He sniffs the air and bolts out kitchen door. Nedira still watching him grins gently, he has finally become a warrior wolf and maybe even alpha.

Joshua runs through the yard and sees what he smelt. A girl standing there in pure white with a deep purple coloured hair, they lock eyes for a moment before she speaks.

"Joshua, you seem troubled these days. Do not be the wolf gods are watching over you and keeping you and Nedira safe. You have a great role to play in the lives of those around you. Xenia's heart has been softened to the love of the wolves and pixies. You must remember her and how special she is as she is no ordinary Carter, she will stop the bloodshed of your kind and of the clan wars in your midst that will soon come knocking on your door step"

...

"Joshua, Joshua! Wake up or you'll be late for school!" Mom shouts from down stairs. Did I just dream all that? It felt so real. Maybe it was real; I'll have to talk with Nedira on the way to school. I just hope she has some answers for me. She is way better at this whole dream spirit and prayer stuff than what I am. I get up and carefully get dressed. My wounds are still healing as are Nedira's from the car accident and the wolf bites. But we are strong and show no pain and fear around others.

"Morning" I say while poking my head in the fridge and find the ice tray is empty. Yep it was real; I normally finish an ice tray by myself. My parents used to have two trays but I'd munch them both. Sadly now they have no ice for any use.

Dad is up for a change and still dressed in his blue puppy patterned pjs.

"So, it seems you raided the freezer and ice again hey", he states as though it's an inside joke. I guess it is one after all these years

"Yeah, had a bad night" I say taking the chance for a big yawn.

Nedira bolts past me and snatches the milk right out of my hands, "Thanks bro!!" she shouts and races out the front door.

"Hey, bring that back!" I reply with a smile on my face knowing that the hungry pup won't give it up for all the meat sticks in the world.

"See you later." I state grabbing a new milk box and some meat sticks hoping for an attempt to keep Nedira still for a small bit, but I know that will never happen in a million wolf years.

"So you finally saw her, Joshua?" Nedira says seriously

"Saw who?" I ask acting like nothing happened

"The girl in the white dress" she says in the serious tone again.

"Yeah, I saw her" I state haply

"You know, she doesn't show herself to everyone, so you super lucky. Listen to her advice Joshua and you will find your true mate one day" She says in a prophetic tone.

She rubs up against me begging to lift her up. I succumb to her will and pick my little sister and put her on my shoulders. She stretches her arms out and gives the loudest howl ever.
