Adelaide took an unsteady step back.
"What?" She said, her voice wavering. "I'm your daughter, Adelaide!"
"I don't remember having kids. But I remember getting married to a woman named Meredith. How is she?" He asked.
"Dad!" Adelaide shouted, tears running down her face. "Stop it! I waited forever for you to come home from the war! And when I finally get you back...only part of you is really here." Her father, Beck, looked at her confused.
"I'm sorry, dear. I honestly don't know why you think I'm your father," he said.
"Dad! Don't you remember those days when you would take Jamie and I to get sweets even though Mom told you not to let us have any more sweets?" She asked. "Don't you remember me?" Beck shook his head. Adelaide was gasping for air between each sob. Cordelia wrapped an arm around Adelaide.
"Sorry to bother you, Mr. Wilson," she said. Cordelia led Adelaide out into the hallway where Oliver was. When he saw her tears, he instantly wrapped his large wings around her, holding her close.
"What happened?" He asked.
"My father doesn't remember me!" Adelaide said through her tears. Oliver held her close, trying to hug away some of the sadness and remind her that she still had him. Adelaide's heart had broken into a million gazillion pieces. Would her father ever return to normal? She hoped he would. And she hoped that he would return to his normal self soon.
Adelaide sat in the room she shared with Oliver, her whole body numb with shock, and her face soaked with tears. The Council had done this to her father. They had made him forget her! Her blood boiled, and Adelaide clenched her fists. What was she supposed to do? Wait until he recovered? She sighed and buried her face into her hands. She wanted to go and get revenge on the Council, but the Parliament would never let her or Oliver out. Adelaide hated the Council for what they did to her father. But then again, she already hated the Council. And, since Adelaide was such an active girl, she wanted to go and get her revenge. And maybe stop the war, too. A knock on her door awoke her from her trance.
"Come in," Adelaide said. Calix walked in and sat on the floor in front of her.
"I heard about what happened with your father," he said, a worried look in his eyes. "And I'm sorry that we couldn't have saved him sooner."
"It's all right. I'm fine," Adelaide lied. "Besides, he probably just needs time to recover." Calix smiled sadly.
"Keep that optimism, Adelaide. We plan to send out a wave of our soldiers to do some damage to the Council, and it's all we can do to stay optimistic," Calix said.
"Well...I hope that works out ok," she said. Calix left the room, closing the door softly behind him.
"Oliver!" Adelaide said. Oliver jumped, yelping.
"What?" He asked tiredly.
"Most of the Parliament's soldiers and others will be gone some time this week! That's our chance to sneak out!" Adelaide said, shaking his shoulder.
"And why would we want to do that?" He asked.
"Because we both want to get revenge on the Council. And even if it gets us thrown in the dungeon, I have a great list in mind of all the great things we can do for revenge," Adelaide said.
"Oh, no," Oliver said shaking his head. "We are not doing that."
"Why not?" Adelaide asked.
"Because the dungeon doesn't have a prey cave with lots of options!" Oliver said.
"Come on, Oliver. We can come back afterwards," Adelaide pleaded.
"Well.....ok," Oliver said. And they began planning.
