Chapter Twenty-Two

They flew to the safety of Oliver's house, where he knew his mother and brother would be. They saw the smoke coming out of the chimney and dove to the doorstep. Oliver let Adelaide off of his back and she rapped on the door. Autumn opened his and immediately wrapped her large wings around the two.
"Come inside!" She said, taking them into the home. Oliver's brother sat by the fire and Adelaide grinned at them all. Her pockets her bulging with six rings. Autumn eyes her warily. Adelaide sat not eh floor cross-legged and took out each ring, one by one. They glittered and shone. Two had fire on them, two had water, and the last two had trees. Adelaide looked them over.
"Looks like we're the new rulers," Adelaide said. Oliver nodded solemnly. How would the nation react to a human ruler? Yes, they had the rule that whoever possessed the rings ruled, but the Council members became the Council members by election, so no on was ever truly unhappy with the current rulers. Was that all about to change?
