The next day Maya was sat in her bedroom tying to revise for her upcoming exam. Her head pounded in time with her heart and blood rushed into her ears. It was like she was in a cocoon of pain, where everything from outside was background noise. Her eyes strained against their sockets, and all she wanted to do was fall into oblivion and escape. Maya heard the doorbell ring downstairs but unluckily no one was at home to answer it so she reluctantly heaved herself downstairs to open the door. She was in surprise to see that it was her best friend Natasha who was stood outside wearing a bright, summery yellow dress. She looked super delighted and excited. Natasha welcomed herself into the house and went straight to the kitchen to get a glass of iced water to cool her down on such a hot day. Natasha was so used to coming to Maya's house all of the time, Natasha thought of it as her house. Maya didn't want Natasha to interrupt her revision even though she was her best friend. They were best friends ever since they were in nursery and promised each other that they would be as they moved on.
Her hair was a rich shade of copper. It was in perfect ringlets as it flowed in waves to adorn her glowing, porcelain-like face. Her eyes, framed by long lashes, were a bright, emerald green and seemed to brighten the world. She had beautiful peachy skin and high cheekbones. A straight nose, full lips - she seemed the picture of perfection. When she smiled, the world would sigh with contentment. When she laughed, the world would laugh with her. And when she wept, the whole world would want to comfort her. Maya was kind of jealous of her best friend's beauty and wished she was as pretty as her too.
Later on Maya and Natasha were both upstairs in Maya's bedroom. Natasha was looking out of Maya's window sniffing the beautiful fresh air whilst Maya tried to stick to her own business and revised. Harris from the other side of the building was also in his bedroom with the curtains fully open revealing his whole bedroom. Maya caught Natasha staring at Harris with a huge grin on her face. 'So... How has your mum been?' Maya said to Natasha trying to get Natasha's attention away from Harris'. 'She's been okay. As usual she just sits there and screams at me for buying too much clothes or makeup.' Maya smiled but didn't know what else to say. 'Oh my god! Did you do the history homework that was set by the fat potato?' Natasha asked. 'No! Oops! I forgot. Well it's not like that stupid, fat potato checks our homework's anyways.' Natasha wasn't speaking anymore. She had just stopped there and carried on looking out of the window amusingly. 'Who is this guy, Maya?' She asked mysteriously. 'He looks a bit familiar.' 'Oh... He's just a new neighbor.' Maya replied sternly. 'What's his name?' 'Harris.' 'Oh. Is it Harris Mirza?' Natasha asked again surprisingly. 'Yeah', Maya said giving a limited reply. 'He is the guy everyone is always talking about in college.' 'Is he?' Maya said with a huge sarcasm tone. 'Yes. Omg! Look how cute he is! Don't you think? I want to talk to him. Please introduce me to him. Please.' 'No. If you are so interested why don't you go and talk to him all by yourself.' Maya said annoyed. Natasha's face turned red in anger and her hands curled into fists. 'You are SO boring Maya. You don't know how to have fun. All you know what to do is to sit there and read stupid books all the time. Life is not full of books. Come out of there and experience it. It's full of happiness, joy and fun. You don't know how to enjoy your life. Wake up Maya!' Natasha screamed. 'That's enough, Natasha!' Maya screeched as she stood up angrily and threw her big fat book on the floor. Natasha pulled a face and walked out of Maya's room slamming the door behind her. She walked furiously out of Maya's house and across the road.
Maya felt a sense of loneliness growing in her heart. She was thinking if Natasha was saying the truth. She was saying nearly the same things as Harris told her yesterday. With that Maya ran as fast as she could to try and stop Natasha. She finally caught up with her and apologised. Maya didn't want to lose her best friend. She had just lost a loved one in her life already. Maya ended up crying because she couldn't take up the pain. Tears flowed out of her eyes as she was apologising to Natasha. Whilst Natasha tried to calm Maya down in the middle of the road Harris walked over casually to them. Natasha's attention drifted off from Maya's and ended up on Harris. Harris locked his dreamy eyes with Natasha's for a short time then laid them on Maya.
'Are you okay, Maya?' Harris asked sensitively. 'I'm fine. Something just went into my eyes.' Maya lied, wiping away her tears from her rosy pink cheeks. Natasha stared at the suave, good looking guy in front of her with her jaw dropped open. 'Oh. I thought you were crying. I was on my way to the shops and I saw you so I thought that I would stop to say hi.' Harris said smoothly. His voice was calm as the silent oceans that glistened in the beautiful sunlight. 'My name is Harris.' He said to Natasha putting his hand forward indicating to her to shake it. 'My name is Natasha', she replied taking his hand and shaking it, gracefully. Maya looked at Natasha and Harris enviously. 'I better get going', Harris said and walked off whilst Natasha waved him goodbye in deep thought.
Maya clicked her fingers in front of Natasha's face to grab her attention. 'Oh my gosh! It was Harris Mirza!' Natasha shouted in excitement. She flung her arms around Maya's neck and hugged her as tight as she could. 'I love you so much Maya.' She said happily. 'And I love Harris too.' She laughed. Maya smiled at the fact that Natasha is friends with her again and her silly behaviour but some sort of pain injected in her heart. She didn't know what was going on.
