Call Me

The three remaining members of Paramore had been promoting their upcoming, self-titled album for weeks. It was terrifying to be releasing an album without two of the band's founding members, especially considering none of them considered any drummers to be as incredible as Zac. And since Josh was one of their key songwriters, it was odd to be writing without him. But the three band members were proud of the album they produced, and without Josh and Zac, at that.

They were only a mere week away from the release of their fourth studio album. Out of what they had released so far, Still Into You had especially received attention.

The three of them had just got out of an interview, which would not even be the only one they had throughout the day. Taylor was exhausted. Little sleep and a hectic day was extremely tiring, as would be expected.

As Taylor was falling asleep in the passenger seat of Hayley's car, he was disrupted when his phone buzzed in his lap. He lifted the device to see that a familiar contact — one he hadn't received any messages from in a long time — had texted him.

Zac: Hey, T. I miss you. I know that you probably don't even want to talk to me. I've heard the music you guys have put out, def impressed. You guys still rock. Please just call me when you can. I need to talk to you.

"Hey, are we almost there?" Taylor asked. He earned a nod from Hayley.

"Why?" she asked.

"I need to make a call. Do you think we'll have time before the interview?" he asked and received another nod.

He rested his head against the cold window, eyes on the buildings they drove by.

As soon as he could, the guitarist gave his old friend a call.

"Taylor?" he heard Zac speak. The guitarist chuckled and nodded, as if Zac could see him nodding.

"That's me. So, uh, you wanted to talk..." he spoke, words followed by a gulp. He was a bit nervous to know what it was Zac wanted to talk about.

"Yeah. Yeah. I did. Look..." he started, but was cut off.

"I miss you," Taylor blurted out. The words just slipped out (not that he didn't mean it. He missed Zac more than words could ever explain).

"I miss you too," Zac responded, a smile on his lips. If only Taylor could see that smile, he'd be fighting back the urge to pinch the drummer's cheeks.

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry? Why are you sorry? You have nothing to apologize for, T. I was immature. Honestly, I think we both were. Me, mostly. I mean, Josh, mostly. When he wrote that blogpost, I think he was still a little bitter over his and Hayley's break up," he laughed. "I don't think it'll do us any good to just...ignore each other. I hate doing that. Especially since then I only feel like I can't listen to your music. Which, by the way, is really awesome. You're an incredible musician. I can't not listen to your stuff."

Oh boy, Taylor was blushing like crazy. Now he was really glad that Zac couldn't see him.

"You were my best friend since childhood. I'm always gonna miss touring with you. Maybe that was why I was...almost afraid of talking to you. Because I was afraid that, well, I-I guess I was afraid that the pain I felt when you left would return. But, instead, the pain was only worse. Look, Zac, I want to patch things up with you. Especially since touring is going to continue for the band and the album is about to be released. I'm definitely gonna be stressed. I can't not have you in my life. You've always made me happy by just being in my life."

Zac was speechless after hearing Taylor's words. It took him a moment to be able to gather his thoughts.

"Yeah. I mean...yeah. How was it? I mean, writing with just Hayley? Instead of also with Josh and I."

"It was different. But so was the entire process. Jeremy helped to write one song off the album, but that one was a very short one. I was one of the producers of it. It was different and weird to record all of the guitar parts. Jeremy had done a lot more on this album than he did on previous ones. 'Bout time for him to step up."

"I'm really proud of you guys," Zac said with a smile. Again, if only Taylor could experience that precious expression.

There was a short silence.

Jeremy walked outside, where his bandmate could be found. Taylor was definitely not doing a good job of hiding the huge grin that was taking over his features. But that was just how he looked most of the time. Jeremy didn't bother questioning Taylor about who it was he was talking to. He was too tired to care.

"Dude, come on. Or else we'll be running late. Interview time," he whispered, eyes wide. Taylor held a hand up and shooed Jeremy off.

"I'll be there in a minute," Taylor whispered, covering his device's microphone as he spoke. He removed his hand and smiled slightly. Jeremy rolled his eyes and walked back into the building he'd just exited.

"I have to go. Interview time. Hey, keep in touch, okay? Love ya', Zacky."

Man, it had been a long time since he had told Zac those words. That he loved him. Or since he had the chance to tease him by calling him 'Zacky.'

The drummer was silent for a moment before replying with, "I love you too, Button."

"Shush, you know how that nickname gets me. All blush-y and stuff. Alright, take care, buddy. I'll talk to you later."

They said their goodbyes. And all throughout the interview, Taylor could be seen blushing and smiling like crazy. Good thing it was just a radio interview. Only few people could see how he looked. But god, was he happy.
