She knew, she was prepared. "I was wondering how long it would take for you to get here."
"The hill. How nostalgic of you." Scar seemed to be unamused, and she understood.
"Kinda fitting, given the situation." She looked up at him, his face filled with anger. "I can only assume that you came here cause you figured it out."
Scar's face was filled with rage, she could see it, sense it. "Didn't you think, once, even for a second, didn't it remotely cross your mind that maybe this was something I needed to know? That Zabuza died and that my efforts have been pointless? Isn't this something I deserve to know!?" You would be doing the same thing you are now. "You are absolutely right. However, I kept it from you because I didn't want to lose you even more than I've already lost. It's been hard watching you avoid me and just not care about me or anyone. Adding to that would have been cruel."
"I needed to find out. You knew I would find out eventually! I wasted my life! I was trying to avenge someone I cared about when in reality, the person I was trying to kill was already dead this whole time!" Akiko's heart sunk, the image of Rei's dead face appeared in her mind. Rei's face disappeared as quickly as it appeared, leaving her an image of Zabuza, dead in her arms, lifeless eyes still looking at her, as if asking for the forgiveness he knew he would never be able to receive.
She forced the foreign words from her mouth, "I'm not going to apologize, that's pointless. Do remember though Scar, you lost a means of revenge, I lost a father." "A father you didn't care about," he spat. That hurt, if only he knew how wrong he was. "I did care about him. Regardless of what anyone thought. He was my father and I cared." I didn't care, I loved him. In my own ways. I loved him more than anything else. He was the first father I ever had, and the last one. "A weakness of mine. I care too much. I don't wanna argue. I don't wanna fight. But I understand that you're in pain."
"Pain!? I wasted six years of my life! Six years gone like that! I promised revenge! What kind of person would I be if I didn't live up to that? Huh? I would probably be an awful person." Akiko tensed up, she could feel all the pain in her life, everything that made her who she was. She was meant to do this. Scar wasn't. He didn't choose this life, and neither did she. But the fact that they embraced their past, it made them like this. He lived for revenge, she lived, for what reason? Why did she live? Akiko knew that answer. She was alive to kill people, if it meant destroying herself in the process.
That was what she had been taught by Yūrei to believe, and that part was telling her to kill Scar. The little girl that had met Scar when he was a little boy, told her to reason with him. Let him live, he was apart of the only family she had. "You aren't a bad person, Scar. You've just been hurt, but you aren't bad. I know you." How can you be so sure that this is the same Scar? He knows the taste of blood, he lives for it now, like you. You know the little 10 year old boy. You don't know anything about this Scar. "You don't know shit about me, or my life for that matter. You'll never know and you'll never understand me."
"I could say the same to you." He growled at her, his eyes turned orange-black, veins popping out from his eyes, and running down to his jaw. He seemed to have fangs, as he wore a sadistic grin on his face. "I guess we'll never find out." Akiko readied herself, "I'm not afraid of you Scar." She wasn't, she had seen worse things, but the whole "hybrid-looking" thing didn't scare her one bit. He sped forward, stopped directly in front of her, they were almost inches apart. He yelled, "You should be!"
Akiko kept a grim look on her face, "I've been through hell and back. You are less intimidating than what I've experienced." "I'll make your past experiences feel like heaven, believe me." I want to see you try. "I find it very hard to believe actually. Let me ask you a question though. What would you have done after you killed my father? Would you have killed me too?" He looked conflicted, his eyes changing normal then back to his hybrid eyes. He glared at her, "No, but since he's dead, guess who the lucky victim is today."
Akiko's eyes narrowed, "I don't need to guess. I've known it all along. Known you were destined to kill me." "Destiny is a false belief. I make my own destiny." Didn't you just say it was false belief? Akiko almost let out a sad laugh, "Tragic isn't it? Knowing that one day your best friend will kill you." Scar's glare remained the same, "Sorry, that title isn't for you to use on me. Naruto's in the hospital." But you were like my brother Scar, I cared. I felt that amount of care towards you and Naruto, I loved you both. But, when demon siblings cause a riot against each other, we both withered away didn't we? I forgot you, and it didn't take long for you to lock me out. "I meant it a long time ago. A long time ago when we used to be friends. I knew. Yet I still cared."
"Well, sorry that I'm not hell bent on dying. I've got someone I need to actually avenge. She died too damn young!" Scar was broken, she knew it. She had seen him like that for a long time. He was on the verge of being fixed. She knew that he would win this battle, he needed to. "I've practically accepted death, you on the other hand, you cling on to living and revenge." "I don't seek comfort in the arms of death. I seek liberty in having freed Zeroko from the man who killed her. Since I can't, I have to use you." I'm no weapon, that's what I told myself. Now that I notice, that's all the potential I lived up to be. I don't want that anymore. "Good, I'm tired of living in this stupid weapon world anyway."
"Maybe they view you as a weapon cause you allow them to. Maybe you don't feel needed so you try to make a big deal out of it." Not anymore. " You don't know me, Scar. Quit pretending that you have the answers." "God, I'm going to enjoy killing you." His claws were growing. Akiko was ready, "Make it as painful as you need it to be." I'll put you out of your misery soon enough."
He grabbed her by the throat and threw her hard down a hill, making her hit a tree. She saw the sadistic smile own his face. She knew what was coming next, and it wasn't going to be either pretty, nor fun.
