Jesse's pov
I was humming along Haters and calmly driving to the beach. I found a parking lot where I left the car, only to get to the changing rooms. It was 6 a.m. and all I wanted was a Red Bull. I needed to wake up. Surprisingly I found the tower ready for today. Whippet was already in.
'Gday Whip!'
'Gday. Here you are!'
'Thanks mate.' I slowly sipped my drink. There was really nothing going on, so we just stayed nestled up in the tower. Just a rhino was in the flag area, where the few tourists and locals were.
'I'm checking the shifts for today' I said. I was in the flags with Maxi and Whippet manned the tower in the morning. Then me and him had to swap position after my lunchbreak.
In one hour or so the sun was shining high, when I heard a knock at our door.
It was Quinno.
'Hi mate, what's up?'
'Nothing the Kid. Just wanted to greet you. I'm down in the kiddies pool with my sister and nephew'. Then it suddenly clocked. Quinno's sister was 26, she'd given birth to a baby boy two months earlier.
'Well have fun! I'm down in the flags. Bye Whip!'
I heard greetings and left for the rhino.
'You're late! Lazy Kid!'
'Aww... stop it Maxi!' I pouted 'I was in the tower checking the shifts for today. And Quinno's come down. With sister and little Kiri'
'Oh right. Where are they? Kids pool?'
'Yep. Oh someone's off the bank. Blue rhino to tower, Maxi's in now. It's a kid.'
'Tower to rhino, do you require for an ambo?' I heard Whippet say.
'No Whip, wait....'
Maxi was talking to the boy. He seemed unaware of what could have happened.
'Where's your parents? Because you were in serious danger boy.' Even I was pissed.
A lady came up to Maxi, but I decided to give her a lecture.
'Your child could have died! If it wasn't for ma mate, he'd be long gone. Never leave your child unattended!'
'I know. Sorry.'
I smiled and said 'Don't worry it's my job.'
We both looked at them walking away to their towels. Maxi suddenly remembered to tell Whippet.
After a while of simple patrolling I went to the tower for drinking some water, when a girl knocked our door.
