"I'm pretty sure we've tried that in the past and that didn't work out. And I'm not doing this all over again!" Zayn argued.
"And I'm pretty sure that I've given you more than two chances now!" While we were arguing, I noticed that Doniya was starting to sneak out of the room.
"Wait where are you going?" I asked. She turned around to look at us and then pointed to the door.
"It looks like you guys have everything under control, so I'm just going to head out."
"And what about Zayn? Didn't he come with you?" My tone was still full of anger and she seemed almost fearful of what I would say next.
"I thought he would be staying here with you, right?" She answered, making Zayn look at me too.
"Uh no way. I've had enough of him," I complained. Zayn looked a little hurt, making me feel guilty about myself. Maybe I was being to harsh on him. "Alright fine, but if he gets annoying, I'm making you pick him up again," I said to Doniya.
"Hold on. I'm not just some object to pass around," Zayn butted in.
"Then why don't you leave with her?" I demanded.
"Because we need to talk and I'm not leaving without fixing this."
"There's nothing to fix Zayn. We're through." He look down at the floor wistfully.
"Ok, but just let me explain everything."
"Fine you can stay, but we're only talking so don't expect anything more."
"I promise." Doniya took the cue and began leaving again.
"Wait Doniya," Zayn called out. "Do you know where Waliyha went with Kyle? Mom and Dad are really worried." Doniya was quiet for a moment and then shook her head.
"No," she lied. I looked up at her and raised my brow. When Zayn turned back around to face me, she put a finger up to her lips and then left. Why didn't she want Zayn to know? I shrugged it off and then sat down on my bed, facing the chair that Zayn was now sitting at.
"Ok go," I said to him. He took a deep breath.
"First, I promise to you that that was the only time I made any sort of physical contact with any girl. I swear, I haven't even so much as hugged my mom or sisters. Ask them yourself."
"That's not the only thing I'm angry about Zayn."
"I know. There's more." I nodded and allowed him to go on.
"So, there's something that I, um, haven't told you."
"And that is?"
"I was the one who got Ellie to start smoking and that's why um she got cancer." A feeling of worry washed over me.
"Oh," I whispered. He was still looking down so I couldn't see his face.
"And when you mentioned the thing about drugs and stuff, it reminded me of that." He paused. "And it kept coming back to me. What you said about me ruining your life. I didn't want to lose you too." He looked up at me and I read his facial expression. He was serious. "And that's why I left."
