------------chapter 5.75 starts here------------
Mary's (Isa's mom's) PoV
As I walked back from the tent distributing rations, I couldn't help but think about Marcus, about how I'd implanted the transmitter in his shoulder.
I had tried to convince myself that it was for my children, but somehow still suffered from pangs of guilt. I knew what I was doing was wrong.
Initially, I'd felt bad for him, having Isa's own mother turn on him behind his back, but that all disappeared when he left Isa alone with her father. In that moment when Marcus should have been there to support her, he had just left her there without helping her through this.
The mere thought of it made my blood boil. He deserved everything that life had thrown at him and more.
But there was still a problem.
Since he was now sitting in on all the police meetings, it meant whoever had forced me to plant the transmitter also knew all our plans. If these were leaked to the president, then we'd be wiped out with just one blast.
And my boys, who I'd even betrayed Marcus for, would be dead.
There had to be a way out of this. A way we could all live, risk-free.
And then it struck me. We had to leave. Just me, Isa, Paul and the boys. We'd steal a car and head off to the western cities. It didn't guarantee survival, but it was the only way that didn't seem to guarantee death.
Holding the rations closer to my chest, I started to run back towards the tent.
------------------------------
Just before I entered the tent, a figure caught the edge of my eye. A figure whose appearance I had burned into my retinas. It was Marcus.
My anger rose as I thought of walking towards him and giving him the slap he so greatly deserved.
But I held back. That slap wasn't meant to be from me. It was meant to be from Isa, whenever she was ready to do it.
Until she was ready however, I'd make sure he stayed away from her. "Marcus. Leave."
His eyes widened as he realized what I had said. "But I-"
I cut him off again. "Leave." I stood firmly between him and the entrance to the tent. Nothing could make me move.
And then I heard a scream from inside the tent. A scream of agony, of pain. But what was most worrying was the person it belonged to.
It was Isa's.
------------end of chapter 5.75------------
Lovely day isn't it? I had an absolutely amazing day and I had an hour long conversation with my best friend and I even got to leave a cliffhanger..
Just kidding :P
Anyways though, i think the next chapter is gonna be a bit unconventional so I hope y'all are excited.
